Rolex drives me crazy
Hello,
It's been two month now that I'm chasing my very first Rolex and I'm getting a bit crazy :-) I love them all! I'm the kind of guy who in marketing is called "with a very long rational purchase process" that means that I take very long time to make my mind and I can say that after two month and about 9 visit to the store I m still confused as ever. Don't make fun on me ok :-) Just to let you know my wrist is 7. Here is how things went through: At first I was keen to get the new OP 39 Dark Radhium then like some of you didn't really like the green slots. At this point watches likes sub, GMT and Explorer was a no go not enough dressy or for me too bulky. Then I was keen with the DJ 41 dark radhium jubilee ans flutted after a try I though it was a bit to shiny and big. Then I was almost certain that the classic 36 dj with roulette dial in black and smooth bezel was the one. Looked good on youtube but after a try definitely a bit small for me. Then I try white grape 36 OP which was very good the OP with the doomed bezel and bracelet looked more like a 37/38 than a 36 especially compared to the DJ. This one still on my short list. Then I try the stainless 36 OP which was good but just a bit to discret. Then I looked a the new explorer and the 36 and I was getting attracted by this 3-6-9 dial. Then I tried a 41 Dj black dial smooth bezel which was looking quite good on my wrist. And now while I wasn't consider it at the first place at all I'm almost in love with the black sub with date. So here is after two month my "very short list" - white grape OP 36 - 41 Dj black dial smooth and jubilee - OP 39 - Black sub date 40 Those are totally different watches, I wish I could by them all. Even the air king looks quite good to me :-) What should I do I'm getting mad even my wife is getting nervous about it :-D |

I like the black dial fluted bezel on your wrist. It’s classic and iconic Rolex yet also very modern and sophisticated

Same for me. For me, a Datejust should be at 36 (that’s the iconic bet) with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. The 36mm has the iconic railroad track on its dial with small Romans with lume hour marker matching perfectly with the hour and minute hands. If you get the 36mm, you hit two birds with one stone: an iconic Datejust design that is correct and a timepiece that can be mistaken as a legacy watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This is it!
So I Went to Roma and and we had some very unpleasant adventures with our rent car but I will revert to this later. Just one thing don’t bring your Rolex there especially in the south region. Anyway I went there moved to the Rolex shop ask to see gmt2 or submariner in steel they got any steel model absolutely no stock. Nothing in the the Rolex shop situated in the center of the most luxurious street of Roma.. Still they got a full gold submariner that I ask to try, it was heavy and so blingy that is was impossible to have a opinion about the sub. The next day we went to one the absolutely beautiful churches that are in the center with my daughter while my wife was doing some shopping. We went out and along the way to the shop I saw a watch seller with some Rolex in the facade. Went in and ask, by any chance do you have any submariner? Beautiful girl which looked exactly as the girl in love with Jim Carey in the Truman show looked if they got any. And they find one ! Reserved but still available for a try. And when I saw it, i knew it was the one. a beautiful black dial date submariner quitte dressy beautifully sporty and elegant! I think I made myself for the very first one. I love a lot of models but I think this has to be the first. Some pics soon |

My vote is for the blue dual with fluted bezel and oyster bracelet. It checks all the boxes!

I fully agree! It's sporty yet dressy at the same time, very versatile indeed! Otherwise the black dial DJ41 would be my second choice. The black Sub date is always a classic too, but maybe that's too big for you based on your comments. Ultimately you might get them all, so it goes...ha! Good luck in your decision. Cheers!

The good thing is that they don’t know me yet not as the Geneva/bern/lausanne Rolex dealers that I’ve visited without buying probably too often now :-) They prefer the Asian tourist that come here and within 10min leave with a brand new dj41 for 9.5k in a blink decision. |

I really like the white grape dial as it stands out against the other references. Looks good on you.

Either of the black DJs or the sub for your first.

Ah yes - the paradox of choice. If you aren’t sure on any of them, probably none are right. Once you know, you know.

Wait until next year, they will update the SS datejust (slimmer lugs) and go for something new.

The Datejust 41 is actually 39mm. I owned one but had to trade it as it was too small. The nicest Datejust 41 imo is the smooth on jubilee rhodium. Not a smooth fan myself but it looks so gorgeous and modern and the dark rhodium goes with anything. Also with you loving the sub but want something that stands out and can dress up just a little more I feel your perfect watch isn’t even on your short list. And it is smaller then a sub around 39mm as well. The new yachtmaster rhodium dial. I went from a black face to rhodium as my wife said the black face was too sporty and the rhodium blends well with any color. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

He’s talking about the 36mm. The smaller size is changing in to a more slender version and these changes happen with two-tone before being rolled out to stainless steel. |

I think it depends how much of a watch guy you are. If this is a one watch only situation, maybe the sub is the best bet. Great bracelet, has a date function, timeless and beautiful and can be used in just about any situation.
If you see yourself with more than one watch, then buy whatever you like the most right now. I think the OP is awesome, minus the claps. I wish it had the same clasp as the explorer. My vote is for the explorer. Looks great in a suit and in shorts and T-shirt’s. Great bracelet, perfect size, and it can take a beating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
