Precious Metal Rolex Discount

An offer from a local jeweler came to purchase watches; I've considered selling and buying something in PM. Below is the offer for purchasing and trading.

https://mailchi.mp/882ed964b2ad/cash...7?e=74640e3490

I'm curious as to what others thoughts are and even more what the discounts people have received on PM Rolex watches? Comments regarding recently received discount are appreciated.

From what I hear the discount is usually in the form of being able to buy some SS at MSRP at the same time as part of a bundle.

I recently picked up an SS BLRO and a PM for wife.
MSRP on SS, 20% off on PM.

I hear now only of 10% or less in the UK, before Brexit 20-30 was possible.

Of I were just buying a PM watch. Meaning it wasn’t a means to get a discount or msrp on a SS watch, 20% is the minimum I would want.

I purchased a PM from JustRolexes. 25% discount.
Local AD would only offer 10%, so I laughed and walked out.

This is astounding to me. I’m really looking at a YG DD40, getting a 20% discount from an AD would be awesome.

I myself got 15, but even 15 is quite steep if you ask me. I do not want to defend anyone, least of all any AD, but presume stock is scarce at the same time all fixed expenses keep on as usual, would any AD be inclined to bent a knee and give you more than 10 percent?

If you buy from AD, with 15% discount, then you add about 8-10% tax depending on state. So the discount is about 7-10%?

Lee,
As I read Long's flyer they are not offering 25% off next purchase just an additional 25% store credit on the figure they offer you for your watches. A basic PM with a MSRP of $30,000.00. So if you are trading in $24,000 worth of watches you would get a store credit of $6,000.00. As opposed to buying a PM watch for $30,000 getting a 25% discount ($7,500.00) and the watch running you $22,500.00

Only because I am looking into the same exact thing.

I read it like this; getting an offer of what ever for the watches is one thing. Negotiating for another watch is something else. I do get your point however. I guess it's likely that they'd consider it all one transaction. Of course it might well depend on what you are selling to them and how much they like it.

Would you be going to the Nashua branch? Would there offer hold if you/I wanted a PM watch they have to order?
Was thinking of stopping in up there this week with these questions.

Damn, that makes sense. I've been using the Peabody store but Nashua would save on taxes. Seems like a good idea. I hadn't thought of it. I'm not too fond of the Peabody store either.

I had thought of offering trade in at one location and negotiating a discount in 2nd location and then purchasing with my store credit from 2nd location. Figure best of both worlds. As a practical matter I think I would do better selling here on TRF than what they would offer.

If you get there before the weekend I would be very interested in Long's response(s) to some of our questions.

Icon9 GMT Master II 116173LN

Hi, I just bought a new GMT II TT 116713LN. The AD kept me on a wait list and Intried every single AD within the East Coast, no one had availability. I just got a break on the state tax. Anyone else had the same experience.

Why the sad face ? Lovely watch and AD discounts on your GMT are really much less, if at all nowadays, than the numbers mentioned here for the PM models. Enjoy your watch and forget about the price

hmmmm... I had a similar offer from a different jeweler some while ago, buy my watches for cash and give me a "bonus" store credit of 20% of their value against future purchases.

The cash offer they gave me was hilariously low, more than enough to offset their generous 20% discount should I ever find anything there that I wanted to buy.
As I recall it was $3900 for my pristine 5004 Big Pilot complete with box and papers...

To some extent, it depends what you are buying; if it's in stock, then you may get a better deal, because the jeweller is carrying the cost of the watch; but often now, you have to order the model you want, and it's made to order, which takes about four months.
So, Rolex seem to be following the same model of restricted supply with PM versions. Which makes discounts more tricky. I got 10% in the UK. In the past I got 15% with ease. And the watches were readily available. Times change.....
I suspect Rolex are determined to stamp-out discounting, as far as possible. Luxury goods and discounts are a bad mix. It always hurts brand image.

I have never bought a PM Rolex that I did not get at least 20% off from an AD. Better from the gray dealers. A lot has to do with the watch and configuration of the dial and color. I have also not been able to make deals on certain hot PM watches. I just take and roll on.

Thank you! I think it looks like I did the best I could with the GMT II 116713 purchase. Saving tax was a bonus after no discount on the MRP.
