WG Daytona 116509 (I think I’m in love)

He’s just a tiny little guy but packs quite a punch! Was never into PCLs or anything polished - lame - but now I get it with the Daytona. Just gotta have it, regardless of the metal. So I apologize to everyone I've never offended.

Cobbled together the funds for what I thought would be a beater as this was the cheapest white gold Daytona on the interwebs (what could possibly go wrong?). For sale by a larger retailer and images were poor and supposedly only the inside box was included and nothing else. Yeah….

But to my surprise I received a complete set, unworn, Z-serial number in perfect condition with a few stickers still on it. Was almost disappointed as I wanted something nasty to turn into a Frankenwatch for fun ("oh the horror, muh panties are bunching up").

Anyway, this thing is great. Currently running 4-5 secs fast but hoping it will settle in based on previous experience. And if not, I’ll go crown down at night as it’s running -1 in that position.

Congrats! You scored on that one. Ten years old and NOS, Wow. I never liked PCLs until l bought my Milgauss, now l have three with them. Also was never an arabic fan but it looks special on your Daytona and goes with the racing theme (speedometer) It's a beauty. Enjoy!!

Nice pickup! Of course, it's not too late to make it a franked watch, always good modification ideas floating around... =)

Lovely Daytona. I like the Arabic numerals and the pop of red!

I get it - and I was just being silly. The translation of my post is that I finally bought a WG Daytona after all these years and now understand why it's such a special piece. I'm blown away, really.

And for those of you on the fence about PM, don't hesitate (especially since the current SS ceramic Daytona is going for about the same price as a gently-used WG version).

Cheers.

Congrats great looking watch and even better sounds like you got it for a great price.

Just beware that dial is notorious for discoloration and turning purple. I remember seeing a NOS one in the case at the AD with a big purple spotch, and they didn't bother having it fixed by Rolex.

However, yours looks immaculate. Nice job!

Noted - thanks. I've seen a couple with splotches around the numbers, so yes, this does seem like a problem with this particular dial. Will be interesting to see how this one ages.

Here's a dial for sale on Ebay as an example:

Yes, with steel Daytonas at sky high prices, now is the time gold actually becomes 'sensible.' And it really does feel better on the wrist, more substantial.
