5270G vs Datograph Perpetual

Been thinking about acquiring a PCC recently and have narrowed down to these two. Wondering what this forum’s opinions are on them.

The blue dial version of the 5270 looks gorgeous and I like the dial layout better.
The Datograph Perpetual’s movement looks just a bit more refined.

What do you guys think?

5270 here hands down. I would however prefer a 5970 or 3970

Lange over 5270 for me but as this wise man has said, lemania patek for the win. Valjoux patek for the hero! Good luck!

both awesome pieces - no bad news...

ALS DP in platinum is a heavy watch in a good way - feels very substantial...

i have a 5170P with a blue dial, and it can be a bit hard to read in the evening...

I love the ALS movement but I also believe a watch needs to be functional. based purely on the fact that its near impossible to read the subdials of the Dato, it must be the PP. Whilst the 5270 price is soft the ALS is horrendous. I was offered the Dato (ok a year or so back) at 30% of list by the AD.

Blue 5270 is a fav of mine, the Dato dial I find too cluttered.

Lange is unwearable. Other than that it’s a nice clock.

With respect, "unwearable" is an exaggeration.

Both watches are 41MM and the Lange is 13.1MM thick vs the Patek 12.4. That is only 0.6MM difference and hardly enough to make a watch go from wearable to unwearable.

I think the Lange is 13.5mm, but I too agree with your point. 1.1mm doesn't make something unwearable. It's tiring to hear this about ALS all the time, even though in some instances I will say the "thickness" comment is valid.

Many default to "Lange is thicker" but for a like for like comparison it is very often not the case. I think part of the mistake is that they compare a Lange watch with more complications to a Patek with less. IE, a Datograph perpetual with big date and a flyback chrono. Or even in this case, the Datograph perpetual which has a flyback and big date to the 5270.

On a like for like basis, the Saxonia Annual Calendar is thinner than all the Patek annual calendar models (despite it having the big date). Also, the 1815 is about the same/slightly thinner than the 5170--despite having a flyback feature.

Yes, that’s it exactly. It’s also a visual thing I believe as the case shape/construction of ALS even when thinner in diameter can visually look thicker.

Thought it was 14? Anyway, would like to see a side view wrist shot from OP, that should help my position.

What? It's 1.1mm thicker. The diameter is the same at 41mm.

Are you saying the 1.1mm makes it unwearable?

Thanks for all the comments. I think the DP I can definitely get it at a good discount from AD. Not too sure about the Patek.

Attached are two wrist shots I took last week.

Yea that’s not even close, 5270 all the way
I would never again buy a Lange new from AD, worst and longest resell out there

Based on the pics, I would go with the 5270 blue dial despite being a fan of the dato.

To the OP; I think I agree with others insofar as the Patek is way more legible.

But, I do really like the grey dial of the ALS. In person it's a stunning watch and personally I've not noticed any issue with legibility (but I don't own one, just get to see a buddy's watch from time to time).

With a manual wind PC function, the 65 hour power reserve of the 5270 beats the 35 hour PR of the Lange hands down. You need to be able to leave the watch for a weekend and not have to reset each time.
