Sub date or no date?

Hi

So i have found an ad who will take a deposit on the sub and guarantee delivery within 3 months, but i cant decide between the two, having tried both on

The ND looks far nicer, but the date will be useful however i have never had a watch with a date so can live without it. Also despite reading people prefer the ND, in reality the demand and waitinf times for the date is far more, so why do people buy it?

If the glass was flat i would have no problem but the cyclops is ugly!

Also my next buy (in 1/2yrs) will be the DJ41 so will have a date watch if that makes a difference!

Thanks

Thought I wanted the date but ended up with the ND and don’t regret it one bit. Like you got a watch later with a date and provides great versatility.

NO DATE!

If you find the cyclops ugly and you don't need the date then you have your answer already. Plus the Submariner (which is the actual name, the 116610 is the Submariner Date) is the rarest Sub and the one to get if you're into the history of Rolex.

The cyclop is not ugly. Is part of the Rolex DNA. However, if you don't have a use for the date, then you've answered your own question already.

Planning on being a single Rolex owner or ceramic Daytona? SubC date
Thinking of adding a GMT or a watch with a date function? SubC no date

I prefer the ND aesthetically and I have watches with the date function so it’s an easy decision for me.

You answered your own question, so go with the Sub ND. I actually rather like the cyclops which is a distinct feature of Rolex plus no squinting to read the date! To each their own. Good luck. Cheers!

So many companies now use magnifiers; nothing unique to Rolex anymore. I would agree that the Sub Date is likely more useful however.

Get the watch you want, not what a bunch of people on a Forum tell you that you want.

I'm still stunned that your AD "guarantees" to get you that unobtainium watch in three months. And in the UK, land of no SS Rolexes no less!

I hope it works out for you.

Me: a vote for no date (notwithstanding @Tools' comment)

The Sub Date is by far the most desired watch and easiest to resell, for what that is worth.

Sounds like you have your answer.

None of my watches have a date. Today is 19 December. You learn to memorize it every morning and recall it throughout the day.

The Sub Date is more popular because the cyclops is iconic and many people can't remember the date otherwise.

Why pay $1,000 extra for a feature you don’t need?

I prefer the cleaner look and symmetrical dial of the No Date

Echo everyone else. If you don't need it the date, get the ND.

I was in the exact same shoes as you. Gravitated toward the ND from the beginning and thought the cyclops was ugly as hell. As I got closer to making my purchase, I really started paying attention to how often I looked at my previous watch for the date.

I came to find I looked at the date too many times throughout the day to warrant getting a ND. I would hate to have to constantly pull out my phone to look at the date instead of my watch. As a result of, or in conjunction, the cyclops grew on me. When I finally went to the store to try them both on, the date won out. I even considered from the beginning that I would have the crystal replaced by LAWW with one without the cyclops, but I'm not so sure I will anymore. If you haven't seen them in person, I highly recommend you do. My perspective changed entirely when I saw them in person and not in the macro zoom these forums portray them in.

For SS, no date, obviously you can only get the no date with SS. I wish the YG LN came with no date tbh.

I prefer the date. Going from date to no date isn't something I thought would be a difficult transition, but turns out I use the date complication more than I thought.

date always. The date complication is actually very useful for me and I use it daily. And I have a thing with all of my watches it needs to be able to tell the time and the date at a minimum.
