My shirt had metal cuff buttons, picked me son up and his butt landed on the buttons which just so happened to be right on top of the bezel. I could feel the pop when his weight dropped lol...

Not worried about it, I bought the watch to wear.

That's why I don't wear metal cufflinks with my Rolex.

I sense a Ceramic Bezel update for the Explorer II from Basel.

I hope not, to me it would kill the character of the watch. If I wanted a “flashy” GMT Rolex has plenty of choices...glad they have a “bare bones” all brushed look sports model.

If they do add a ceramic bezel I hope it’s fixed and not rotating.

I’m no expert but I don’t see Rolex making any major changes to the explorer 2 until 2021 (50th anniversary.

I agree with you I actually prefer it over the ceramic Submariner and GMT Master. It's more comfortable on my wrist than either of those also

God I hope not. Their explorer line is the last of the tool watches. They got bigger with the new iteration, but that increased legibility. Ceramic would just make it bold, loud, and blingy.

No sir, the Explorer line is not the last of the tool watches.
Not even close.

Well let’s face it, there is no functional improvement added by a ceramic bezel other than scratch resistant. However this is offset by the fact it can chip especially at the edges and the cost would be quite significant to replace in the event of a failure. Though the current bezel may scratch easily that is cheap to replace or buff out. While most models have the tool watch DNA so to speak the Explorer line really looks the part. The new versions with the giant lugs and polished center links are more show ponies now.

Chips and breaks are purely theoretical.... in the 10 years of ceramic bezels, I think there’s probably been a dozen broken inserts on TRF.

I feel your pain. I added a scratch to my 14060M my first day at work. When I bought it it appeared to be basically unworn. Perfect condition. I went over it with a magnifying glass since it was my first Rolex. Was plugging in some batteries to a camera rack/shelf at work. Bang! Arghhhh. It's basically invisible but it's there. Oh well, number one.

Agreed but I do think some of the newer models are a slightly more “dressier” looking than their previous versions imo

I'm wondering if the Yacht Master 40MM with the platinum bezel would be prone to scratches like this Explorer's steel bezel? I have a platinum wedding band and it is scratched up like crazy. With the Sub & GMT's ceramic bezel, it is harder to scratch right? I'm interested in getting the YM40MM, but have only wore the GMT and Subs in the Rolex professional line. Before I spring for the YM40MM, I just wanted to do my due diligence.

Taste and distinction trumps a scratch 10 times out of 10. Nice job; great watch.

Now you don't have to worry about the next 10-20 scratches!

Congrats on the recent purchase by the way.

Exactly! For me it’s only the first two or three that are hard...now you’re free to just enjoy that amazing watch! Congrats! It’s a stunner.
