ROLEX at WALMART

... well, kind of.

In all the years and of all places, the one time someone commented on my watch was while I was paying at a Walmart. Of course, I had already noticed the guy behind me wearing an old school Pepsi GMT but I remained silent.

As I was grabbing my merchandise to walk away, he gave me an approving head nod and said "nice Kermit!" Naturally, I replied saying, "nice Pepsi!"

I got a chuckle out of the fact that everyone around us was oblivious to our exchange and the cashier looked at us like we both had holes in our heads.

That is all.

Love it! What are the chances of that happening? Too bad it wasn't caught on video. Thanks for posting. It made my day.

Cheers,

All in good fun.. But per my kids...cringey.

To be honest though...I have no good solutions in how to answer people commenting on my watches by nicknames.

Definitely!

I’m pretty relaxed about other people using watch nicknames. But reading this thread induced a shiver and a cold sweat in me as I considered what I’d do if somebody ever came up to me and said in public...

Really? You guys are funny. Whether someone uses a nickname or serial number to compliment your watch, if you know what they mean, why not just say "thanks."

No not really, I was kidding. I think I’d say something like “thanks, you have impeccable taste” and I hope I’d recognise their watch and compliment it in return. Though being a typical Englishman the idea of strangers talking to me in random places does cause me angst.

I just like to use any excuse to post a gif that makes me chuckle every time I see it, because I’m a man-child.

Costco gets gray market inventory and occasionally has Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Cartier . . .

Many people think Walmart is the seller.

They are not, like I said.

The other day, I took my beater watch into Wal-Mart to have the battery changed. I wasn't wearing my BLNR, but making conversation I asked the lady if anyone ever brings in any Rolex watches to have them resized, etc. She said not often, but she has changed out the batteries in a couple Rolex watches. I then laughed to myself thinking, either they weren't actually a Rolex or they were very poor fakes!

Probably fakes, but they could have been oysterquartz...
