How I got my Submariner (my first Rolex) from AD
Two weeks ago, my gf and I went to Cancun to (obviously) enjoy the beach and pool while staying in the resort. My gf have always wanted to get a Cartier Tank so she wanted to check out the mall to see if it it would be cheaper to buy from there (we are from NYC). So we paid a visit to Ultrajewels with 0 expectation of buying a Rolex - especially a SS Submariner, which always has been my dream watch but I was well aware of the worldwide scarcity of SS models (in addition, I was generally very satisfied with my Moonwatch that I purchased a year ago).
While she was checking out some Cartier models, I politely asked a sales associate whether they have any SS sub/GMTs in stock (their showcase was as equally empty as any other ADs in the US). To everyone's surprise, he said he has one 114060 that he can show it to me. Didn't really know what to say because I didn't have any purchase history or any sort of relationship with this particular AD. Indeed, asking for the SS model availability was my very first interaction with him so I almost thought he was joking. After I tried it on and saw it in person, I immediately told him I would buy - after which he said he had to confirm with the manager for an authorization to sell. The authorization didn't come until later that night - so I pulled the trigger in the next morning when I visited the shop again. There was no waitlist, no bundle, stickers still intact, no retention of warranty card, no strings attached. I even got tax refund so I ended up paying below MSRP. I know I got very lucky, and my first Rolex AD purchase experience could not have been better. Please see the attached for the pic. I am still in awe of this Sub every time I look at it. PS 1. After witnessing me purchasing a Rolex, my gf also wanted to buy something. So she also ended up getting her Tank from Ultrajewels, and they graciously gave her 7% discount. PS 2. After we exited the shop, my gf told me she wanted to pay for my Sub as a wedding gift and for my 30th birthday (I plan to propose her in September when we go to Barcelona). |

Congratulations and as other said you got lucky. I've called every dealer in Cancun and Puebla and no luck. May I asked if you pay import tax. Does Mexico participate in VAT refund?

Why is that a surprise? Are stainless subs hard to find? I see them all over the place. |
