CHNR Owners - Input Appreciated

Hello fellow TRFers - I have a question for owners of the CHNR, specifically the two-tone variant:

I am heavily considering this watch, but have never seen it in person. Judging by the photos alone, it appears to me that this watch takes on two different looks depending on (I'm assuming) the lighting. I've provided pictures (not my own) below.

In the first one (photo cred to TRF member, Mystro) it is in my estimation one of the most beautiful watches in the entire Rolex line. This appears to be taken under natural light, and everything about the color scheme looks spot on.

However, the second photo leaves me less convinced. The rose gold just doesn't quite do it for me against the steel under this lighting, whereas in the first photo I find that the two metals compliment each other perfectly. I also like the look of the bezel a lot more in the first one compared to the second.

So I guess my question is: In your ownership experience do you find the first picture to be more accurate in most settings, or the second? One of the most common expressions we see here on TRF is "pictures don't do it justice" especially when it comes to the CHNR.

I would love to see one in person before making a decision, but I don't know when I'll get the chance, so I think reading some real ownership experiences would be a great start.

As always I really appreciate your input, and the wealth of knowledge found in this community. Cheers!

I owned this one( only sold it because I am a sub guy). However, like most Rolexes that are multi colored, it does look different in different lighting. I loved the rose gold aspect and never thought that it looked like yellow gold. It had a much warmer tone. I think the brown in the bezel helps to always let you know this is rose and not yellow. If I stumbled upon this in an AD case again, I think I would be a player again, unless they release a rose gold sub at Basil. If you like rose gold, I think you will be very happy with it. Good luck on your quest.

Thank you for the input! Most of the ownership experiences I have read about on this forum so far have been positive, and it sounds like yours was as well. But I should hope that with a user name like Oceanlover914 your first choice would always be the Sub haha

I've owned the TT CHNR since Christmas, and I absolutely love it. Looking at the photos above, I think that the second is more accurate. The first photo has some of the brown color of the table reflected in the gold links.

That being said, the rose gold to me doesn't ever strike me as "pink." I find it to be a deep, brassy gold. To me that's the most accurate description.

One thing to know is that this watch is many things in many different degrees of lighting. In direct sunlight, you see the deep brassy gold. In the shade, the brassy gold becomes more of a standard gold color.

The bezel's brown can go from light milk chocolate to dark brown. Also, when you drive on the freeway with a pair of polarized sunglasses, you can see the rose gold hour markers and rose gold hands pop against deep black of the dial. Stunning!

I bought the watch sight unseen, after taking a look at a rose gold yacht-master that was at the AD. It exceeded my expectations in every way. Everyone's taste is going to be different but I don't think you can go wrong with this piece.

To me, the rose gold is like getting a beautiful gold TT without the flash of "yellow" that turns most people away.

First pictures accurately portrays the watch the colors mesh beautifully. I had never seen the watch . When we got "the Call" and saw the watch in person my wife and I both nodded enthusiastically and didn't hesitate to purchase the watch. If you get the watch congrats you will be very happy !!

You know, reading Walts reply, the truth could be both photos are accurate because that's how much of a chameleon the CHNR is - which just adds to the "wow" factor.

I generally think yellow gold anything is too flashy for my taste. I prefer stainless steel or white gold.

I purchased this watch sight on seen as well, because it is that stunning to me. But, not in an “in your face” way. More of a classy, subdued way. A watch that I feel comfortable wearing at a fancy dinner as well as shorts and flip flops.

If you like a hint of precious metal but without the flash, you’d enjoy this piece. The brown on the bezel also helps to give it a warm feeling. Hope this helps....

The CHNR also is in demand- 2022 is what one AD told me so right now getting hold of one sooner without going to a grey dealer is my biggest question. From what I’ve seen I’d buy it without a prior viewing

Yes, this one does appear to be in high demand, particularly for a two-tone. But 2022 seems a bit extreme. I'd check with a couple of other AD's if I were you. I spoke to one today that seemed pretty optimistic...of course I wasn't given an exact timeframe.

The first picture shows the beauty of the watch, while the second more accurately shows the colors.

Interesting! I'm not a big fan of the way it looks in the second picture - can't even really put my finger on why. I desperate need to see this is person.

The second picture doesn't show the true beauty of the watch. it is sterile looking in that picture, which is why it shows the colors well.

It took me less than a second after seeing it in person to decide it was leaving on my wrist.

Do t own one but I did get to see one and try it on at my AD.
The first pic is an excellent representation of how it actually does look.
You won’t regret it if you prefer the first pic.

I put down a 50% deposit 6 months after it was announced at Baselworld and I only waited 3 months. I don't think it's that impossible if you ask around...unless demand is heating up now for some reason.

There is a bit of a wait for this timepiece however it’s definitely worth the wait! Owned this since last week, no doubt you need to see it in person to truelly admire it. Was lucky enough to purchase ‘walk in’, though bigger chains in the Uk will class this as an allocation piece.

Your picture also looks great!

Is it running +2 seconds a day or +2 in total? Either way, sounds like it's performing "superlatively" indeed. No doubt the updated movement is a nice added bonus of ownership.

2nd pic is over saturated, flat, touched up to look like a drawing. The watch is breathtaking in either light. Outside it really pops with color and deep hues. My pics still don’t do this watch justice. In my journeys with this watch and traveling, it gets noticed and gets more compliments than any other Rolex I have owned. It’s a rock star.

Here are a few pics outside and inside.

Good sir, your photos are seriously stunning - it's no coincidence that I copped one to use in my OP. Honestly the one with your hand in your pocket and your dog in the background may have just sealed the deal. That's exactly what I'm looking for: warm, masculine, classy, casual, and adventurous all at once. Thank you for sharing!

So I’ve been hunting around for this watch for almost a year since it’s release. Walked into an AD I’d never been to in my life last Saturday and put my name on their list as well.
Four days later I got the call to come in for a viewing. Went along and saw the watch next day, it was the first one I’d seen and it was everything I envisaged it to be and like others have said, when viewed through the Mk1 eyeball it’s an incredible piece.
I bought it straight away but it’s now in my safe until my birthday which is next week so this is a great present to myself and I couldn’t be happier. I feel very lucky to finally have one.
As I haven’t worn it in the wild yet, I’m not at liberty to express an opinion yet on how it looks in different lighting and won’t know for a few weeks yet.
To the OP, I wouldn’t over think it too much. The TT CHNR is a truly unique watch. Probably the most beautiful watch I’ve ever seen and I think like the BLNR that had a relatively slow start when it was first released, the CHNR will become unobtainium before long. There’s no other watch I’ve ever seen that has the perfect mix of coloured ceramic bezel and PM quite like this one does. Rolex really perfected the blend of colours on this watch so well like nothing we’ve ever seen before.

I can be a bad influence on your Amex card. Seriously, I try to keep my photos as accurate as possible but still struggle to capture its “x” factor that it has in real life. The best way I can describe the CHNR is it has a “swagger” to it that speaks for itself and makes a big statement without looking like you are showing off. What is so special with the CHNR is it is the first modern ceramic Rolex where they got the ceramic hue correct and also matches the Everose tone perfectly. Then they carried the theme one step even further by using Everose hands on with a black face background even more contrasting the deep hues across the entire watch. No other modern Rolex has gone this far with keeping the hues matching so perfectly.

I completely agree with you. A big factor for me when deciding on a watch is whether it has complete design cohesion. It's why, no offense to anyone, I couldn't get on board with the new Air King - lots going on but it doesn't all seem to come together. From everything I've seen, the CHNR appears to be the gold standard in design cohesion IMO. It's more than the sum of it's parts. That's why I don't think it will ever become dated looking or go out of fashion, despite what I've seen posted here by some in the past. An inherently great design won't go out of fashion, and will one day become a true classic.

I intentionally skipped over everyone's replies so that I could just give you my own without bias. As I was scrolling down I saw those pictures from Mystro. Absolutely beautiful. I don't have a way with words so I'll put it like this. Mystro's pictures are like the ones you see of a model on the cover of a magazine. Mind blowing! If you see those models in real life, they go from a perfect 10 to a 9.75. It drops off but not a whole lot.
To answer your question, I think my CHNR looks closer to your first picture. Especially during the day.
If you want to see one in person get on a plane to Hawaii and we can drink a Kona Longboard and seeing the CHNR under the Hawaiian sun and you will be sold.

Bags packed and I'm on my way.....I wish

Your model analogy makes sense, and definitely helps. Ironically, the first picture I posted was also borrowed from Mystro.

Ive had one since July and i think both of the OP and really all of them capture the variations. The thing with this watch is it tones down when in lower light levels and the colors shift to warmer. In bright like the rose is much more apparent but is a great rose gold color. It’s a very masculine watch and dresses up and down very well.

I’m sure the color will come out of favor but right now for me yellow gold is too much something.
