Great video and a scary situation with evolving fakes

Someone posted this article, which includes a great video of how the fakes have evolved, featuring 116500.

I love his last sentences that say something like

".., reward, motivation, joy. you may be able to fake the watch, but can you fake the way it makes you feel?"

Watchfinder & Co. makes some great content! This video really impressed me with the attention to detail these fakes are trying to achieve.

It's only a matter of time until replicas are exactly that, 1:1 replicas with NO flaws. The only takeaways here are you'd need a loupe to see the differences unless you had them both side by side. You wouldn't find me dead with a replica but there are plently of people who dont "act their wage" and will rush to find whichever chinese Daytona is featured in this video.

On a side note: i love Watchfinder & Co.'s videos. Excellent narrator and very informative content

Really scary... still the fugazi is a G as per video. My concern is unscrupulous folks selling them off as real... great video.

Agree with all the above. This also lends a little credence into the theory of how much variable cost there is in a SS Rolex... Of course, variable cost this doesn't take into account the R&D, advertising, ambassador costs, etc. associated with running a legit business.

Yeah, and someone will sell this for upwards of 20k.
There are a ton of people who won't do their research and find out they are out of a lot of money. So sad.

With a classic 10X jeweler loop , it is not very hard to recognize the fake one from it’s Crown on the dial and the red Daytona script .

I could tell which was fake from the preview image.

When the caseback was opened it was more obvious.

While these are good, it's better to be an informed consumer.

Not according to most on here (I agree with you by the way)

I’ve read many times no discussing details and now we have a video posted showing exacting details in the best macro video you’re likely to see from one of the biggest dealers! Just goes to show they’re not worried the fakers don’t know what they’re doing.

Mind you it is laughable to think the people at the top of this chain need our help on the forums to tell what the differences are. The threads in this section with some of the people declaring what’s real or not with such conviction and then never to be seen after they’re proven wrong.

Actually they do! But on basis I can not prove that exact detail - I can prove that "scammers" (sellers of fakes) on the likes of eBay DO post in these type of forums to see "if" there photos of their watches pass our appraisal.
If we state "fake cause you can see the LEC" then they remove that photo or a different angle

It was just another round in the “arms race” with the fakirs. A delaying tactic if you will.

Embedded Chips keyed to blockchain would be the better next step methinks.

Yeah, i thought of some kind of chip too, especially for stolen pieces, but how long until that gets figured out.

then again, the technology is evolving. next thing you know, there will be some kind of sphere or invisible coating with gps tracking

honestly, when i see the video, all i see is threads here from scammed buyers that learned their lesson the hard way

Yes - and those that will rant here likely represent only 1% of people who are hoodwinked and will buy a fake Daytona 500 on FB, eBay, CL, Walmart.com, etc.


Shifting gears...

I have higher expectations for Rolex than most. In my experience with other technologies, corporations and pursuits - a company that won’t protect itself has no self-respect.

Well they have done more than most
LEC, REHAUT and in house design, but counterfeiters can do all these things in time.

The LEC is 95% achieved and REHAUT 100% in many cases

I honestly think Rolex doesn’t really care that much about counterfeits. I don’t think they’re losing sales, 99% of people who would knowingly buy a counterfeit would never buy a real one. In some ways buying a fake might inspire someone to save up for the real deal.
I think luxury companies go through the appearances of fighting fakes but wonder how hard they really try. I was in New York recently and it’s amazing how openly the sellers hawk their wares along Canal St, mostly purses. I think the authorities go more for catching the wholesalers bringing containers of fakes into the country, less for the “retailers” on the street.

We know well where the huge counterfeit watch companies are in China and we do nothing.
Why? It’s such an important market we turn a blind eye

Probably true about the those buyers. Rolex already sells everything they make if you consider it’s all shipped to ADs and the sales are booked.

But they do care about brand value methinks.

If someone is going to buy a fake, they will buy it and if someone wants the genuine article they wont settle for a fake. However, i have a friend who bought a fake submariner and he liked it so much he bought a genuine Rolex when it broke.

Close. But still miles apart.
Rolex, Omega, Breitling all now make their own in-house movements with technologies that can not be copied.

Even the Panera 9000 movements - you can easily tell

Also, we should note the serial number on the fake in the vid...so we can cross check it when a questionable Daytona comes up for sale on ebay etc..
