Trade Hulk for Daytona 116520 fair deal?

A friend is offering to trade his Y serial from 2002, w/o paper, white 116520 for my 2013 Hulk. I need to add 500 USD though. My Hulk is with box and paper. Is it a good deal?

If it is a good friend of yours and you know for sure it was purchased by him at a AD and you like this model better than your Hulk it is a fair deal.
A 16/17 year old watch probaby needs a service too. Calculate that in the price and you come to an average price for a daytona.

A incomplete box set is worth $1000 less so you know. I wouldn’t do that deal as it has too many potential issues like “older watch”, incomplete set, potential expensive Daytona service.
Your older Hulk with full box set is worth $10.5K in trade in.

Daytona will be worth more than a Submariner all day everyday, in a few years when things settle down the Daytona will be much harder to get.

At the end of the day get what you want and wear it in good health

So true. Do people wear green watch these days? LoL

Leave the color for your apple watch or underwear

I do like blue though

I am not so sure about that comment right there.

Daytona is far more versatile, than a green watch. The hulk has huge wrist presence, bold green color, and giant lugs. That white Daytona looks good on the beach with shorts or with a sport jacket. So if you don’t need a date for anything, than do it. Just make sure you are ok with the legibility of the watch. For me, my 116520 is not a daily wearer due to the lack of date and legibility issue on the subdials. Reading the time is fine.

This is a no brainer if it’s a purely fiscal decision. If you also appreciate the Daytona more than you’re sub ... well that’s just icing. If you prefer the sub aesthetically then this is probably a bad decision.

If you like the Daytona better then go for it. In the end it is about what you want to own and wear. The money is close enough not to matter. A service is looming for both watches with no prior history.

Ditto what @1William wrote. However, the service on the Daytona is a lot more expensive.

IMHO the Daytona is a more attractive and more versatile watch. But for me, personally, I've had two of them and I have a lot of difficulty reading the time. Both were white faces, but that holds true for most colors offered in the Daytona. The contrast between the hands, the face and the subdials isn't enough for me old eyes.

I would not trade if I were you. cause w/o papers might create problem. But if you can authenticate it with an AD, and if you like the daytona better, why not

Most definitely I would do the trade. The only reason not to would solely depend on the condition of the Daytona. Are the two roughly in the same shape?

If the Hulk is worth 10.5K then it means the Daytona is 11K. Good deal then.

I too love the Daytona, white over black.

I love the case size of the Daytona, very comfortable.

Both are beautiful. Daytona is more of a classic.

White dial is already the most legible among the Daytonas.

Both are in same condition, never polished.

I would push for a straight trade to be honest if your friend has some leeway. Then you can put the 500 dollars towards the service and that's your papers sorted.

⬆️⬆️⬆️ Agreed! This is exactly what I’d do as well. It will come back looking beautiful from RSC and you’d have your complete, getting harder to source, Daytona.

If you are talking about look and preference then you are the only one to answer that question. If you are talking about value, sooner or later the green sub will be discontinued but there will always be a daytona of Newer and older models so even though right now Daytona is worth more however my crystal ball is telling me five years down the road the green sub will certainly be worth more.

Interesting, if it was not replaced by one with an updated movement like the case of the 116710 blnr.

The Kermit never came back, the coke never came back, and the hulk might never come back!! I realize it’s speculations but odds are more likely for daytona to stay in production than for hulk

Good deal. Hulk for Daytona. Just that no papers and you might need servcing n that will cost you. Prices will raise in tandum and Daytona will always cost more. I would consider Daytona which is a chronograph a simple complication the very least.

Alright I’m gonna be the contrarian here. Call it the Voice of Reason. You know what they say about if it sounds too good to be true. Money does strange things to people and many times even trumps friendships. It’s hard to imagine your friend doesn’t know this is a good deal for you so that begs the question, why does he want to do it? Would he be opposed to the watch being taken to an RSC for evaluation/authentication?

He certainly knows the value of the Daytona, but also wants to save the hassle of selling the watch somewhere else, or reluctant to sell it to a grey dealer.

verify the watch by certified watch maker and if all checks out green. I would trade in a heart beat.

Personally I would not do it but I prefer the sub to the daytona! I certainly wouldn't be adding $500 on top!!

I can't imagine flipping my Hulk and not regretting it. That would be my driver as to whether i would do the deal. If you prefer the daytona and can't imagine any regrets then go for it.
