Trade Opinion

Hi guys, I'd like your opinion about a trade, no matter the price. Here it's not about money but what would you do and especially why would you (not )do it?

Would you trade a 5513 meter first '67 top condition with papers (+ money) against a very late NOS Black 16520 ?

Thank you mates!

My answer may change depending on what else you have in your collection, but no I probably wouldn't.

I'd next to that think about selling a 16700 and a speedmaster from '67...then I'd - only - have a ceramic sub for everyday and a 16520.

If the Daytona is gonna sit in your safe the answer is no. If you’re gonna wear it then most def yes. The money matters, so I’d want to add as little as possible. How can you be certain
The Daytona is unworn? This is a frequently inaccurate claim.

I'd wear it for sure ! I only buy watches to wear them! it is a full set NOS from a "famous" dealer.

Wow, a "famous" dealer? I can only wonder who that would be. Hmmmmm.

I know many "famous" dealers that have been caught with their "pants down."

I'm assuming you're thinking of this from purely an investment perspective. That is, which, in the coming years, will be more valuable. Because, from purely an aesthetic perspective, only you can answer that. Which do you prefer? I, personally, don't "get" Daytonas, but plenty of people revere them.

If each was valued the same, which would you wear?

Get that one.

I'm not really thinking about investment. I'm just thinking about having more desirable watches I don't have...The problem is that I desire more the watches I don't own yet...that's why I'm asking for opinions. If each was valued the same or not, I'd wear both. I've different watches from 7k€ to 20k€ I wear more or less all no matter the price..

In any case thanks for you help!

Not a chance. There are many more Zenith Daytonas out there than "meters first" Submariner 5513 sets.

You're paying a premium for a NOS set, once you put it on your wrist, you're inevitably bound to get scratches/dings etc. You're paying for a premium that would evaporate as soon you wear your watch. It would be different for me if the Daytona was used etc. And as Springer said there are much less MF 5513 full sets than zenith Daytonas.

If your trading to a “trusted Seller” You are lining His Pockets TWICE.He is going to lowball You on the Trade and expect full market for the Daytona.

This.

Never trade with a 'dealer'. They are in it for the profit. You will look back on this with regret, I can assure you. (Yes I am speaking from experience :S)

You will 100% regret this trade. Never pay the premium for a "NOS" if you intend to wear and enjoy it. You will destroy the premium right away and start in the black.

A 5513 set is a premium, rare, stable investment grade piece.

16520 is a IMO bit bubbly and the price is a bit out of wack with reality.

The last part is subjective but you have left out how much money and what else you have to enjoy so it is really up for you to decide based on that. You would almost certainly do better just selling it on your own.

Was thinking this was a certain dealer too springer. Whenever I hear the NOS acronym thrown around I cringe a bit. If the piece is going to be worn and enjoyed I don’t see why he shouldn’t do the trade. A buddy just paid around $18k at auction for a 2.2m serial 5513 w papers in “ok” condition, so I’m sure the cash gap is serious. If ithe 16520 is as described the cash value is in the 28-32k space :/

Nice 5513. US$15,000 at the least?
Great Big Daytona Hype is so big, most are out of reasonably prices...

16520s are very nice but for this trade you'd need for it to be patrizzi or inverted 6, or both (does that exist?). Something to make it more collectible. As observed earlier, there are a lot of 16520s out there and I think their run-up is more due to the prices of 4 digit Daytonas spiking out of most budgets than anything.

I am wondering what is the price you are thinking to sell your "top condition with paper" 5513... I am curious on having a 5513...
