A discovery about my 16700.
First, I'll excuse myself for posting and leave a hello for all.
I wanted to tell a small, rather boring (for me), discovery, that I had from my GMT 16700 1993. I'm not collector and not expert. In addition to it, I have a Sub 16610. My 16700 was a pre owned. Always, always and always i wanted to own a GMT. I do not know, but I think it's beautiful. At any angle. I bought my 16700 a few years ago. I know, of course, that someone polished it. For me, it was perfect at that moment. Documentation OK, inspection OK and life followed LOL. I no used my GMT day by day, for day by day i use my Sub. At a business dinner, a friend wore one GMT Master II. It was at that moment that I saw the left side of my case had a slightly more rounded shape (and I think it's pretty) and I even prefer the lines of my Sub are very straight for me. But ... I thought. Damn, something here is not 100% in here ... I went to look on the Internet and i saw that the lines of my 16700 were a bit more (softened). Although I like it, I thought: Damn polisher!!!! Now I dont know if: 1: I should recover de case or 2: I leave like this and have always been I am afraid of getting worse and I do not know if I am "valuing" too much and "worrying" too much. I still think he's beautiful. Please, what is your opinion and my apologize for your time. To all, thank you very much and God bless you. Sorry, English is not my native language. Cheers, Augusto. |

Leave it the way it is. This is life and none of us look like the day we were born. I personally like the edge that way.

Actually looks great for a 26 year old watch.
If you really want to there's some people who do great casework and can bring it back, but I'd leave it as is. |

Agree. The watch was not much used and it filled my eyes when I saw it and bought it right away. Probably more guarded than used all the time. Thank You so mutch. Your opinion is valuable. |

Beautiful watch! Regarding the case work, Los Angeles Watch Works, AKA LAWW, can restore your bevels on the lugs and probably Rolliworks too. Yes it has been polished but not too much. I visited LAWW last week before the 4th of July weekend with my own watch (a GMT 1675), to see what recommendations they might have. For mine, they suggested kind of a vintage restoration that would restore the beveled edge and resurface the top only leaving some of the wear and tear (patina) on the sides. Beau and Edvi showed me a case they were currently working on with just that treatment. It was quite nice. Mine is a bit more worn than yours and they said it would cost about $350. That said, will I do it? Maybe. Hope that helps.

Thank you very mutch for your opinion, attention friend and for telling your experience. I also want to tell you that GMT 1675 is a dream. The 1675 is a GMT in the purest essence. My eyes always shine when I see one. Congratulations and again, thank you for your attention. Last edited by Capf2005; 11 July 2019 at 07:51 PM.. Reason: Correction |

Your 16700 looks great overall, leave it as is & never have it polished from here on in.

I have the same watch with the same "issue". It was hit with the polishing wheel too hard once and its chamfers are gone. I personally am fine with the watch as is as the lugs are still thick and looks good. If it were worse I might have considered sending it to rolliworks, but it all depends on you and what you want.

Unless you are a perfectionist, the polish should not bother you.
My year 2000 Sub is polished about the same as yours and it does not bother me in the least, and never has. Bevels are not high on my list of important things in my life. Enjoy your watch.
