Rolex vs omega ... 1 specific watch

Between these 2 ...

Both yellow gold and both a Champagne dial

Price is as good as the same, The Omega is 1000 euro more expensive

The Rolex is not limited, the omega limited to 1014 ( although I don't think this should influence your choice)

Both are probably the most iconic chronographs in the world - who beats a Daytona or speedmaster ;-)

The Omega has one advantage, a fantastic movement visible trough the sapphire caseback

Love them both, my wife has the Daytona but I still really want to see the Omega in person to see how it is.

I would opt for the Daytona. Not sure how well gold Omega watches hold up, but gold Rolexes are renowned for being quite durable, despite the softness of gold. Perhaps Omega is the same?

On the Omega, I personally find the red bezel competes too much with the gold. This is probably because they're not complimentary colours. Further, I don't think the limited production is low enough to warrant a serious demand for the watch. If it was limited to 150, then perhaps it might.

Hard to pick a Daytona over a Speedmaster but between these two the Speedy wins for me very time. Close, but an easy choice.

The caseback view of the Omega is very nice so that just might sway it for me, altho I would like it at the same price or better.

Tough choice, since both are pm watches, it’s going to come down to personal preference

If these two choices, definitely the Omega! The Daytona is plain as vanilla but that Omega is fantastic

The Speedmaster for sure but I am a big Speedmaster fan so I might be biased.

Rolex. Not even close. The speedmaster is vastly inferior to the the Daytona in terms of movement, fit and finish. Making the speedmaster gold and calling it another LE doesn’t make it better.

Rolex all the way. Looks so much nicer to my eyes. The Omega is underwhelming aside from the case back which you will rarely see.

I don't have a Speedmaster, but between these two particular watches, I'd pick the Speedmaster. Not many gold Omegas, but this watch a very special limited edition that I think like the Silver Snoopy will hold its value. It looks great. It has a better heritage than the Daylona. And I'm a space guy so I'm partial to it. I'd have a Speedmaster if they weren't too big for me and I prefer automatic watches.

My only thought here is if we compare the SS equivalents, the cost on the used market for the Omega is like half its retail? Even before the steel craze a Rolex would be around 80%. If you can't get the Omega from a grey dealer at 60% of retail or less I would hard pass.

While they are both nice watches I certainly wouldn't consider them of equal financial worth. Omegas don't hold their value well relative to retail and are not worth paying the price of the Rolex.

For reference I own a gold sub. It is my favorite watch ever made in terms of looks, but if someone offered me a gold AP Royal Oak at the same price I wouldn't have thought twice. Not a fair comparison. Same applies here.

Movement wise you are getting a 3861 Master chronometer, I doubt any unbiased opinion would say it is not VASTLY INFERIOR to Rolex and fit and finish wise, take off the logo and I bet very few could tell the difference, then tell them the price difference it’s all Rolex kool aid the case on my 2500 dollar Seamaster is polished to greater detail with beveled edges then any modern Rolex I have
owned, Rolex cases are just a box with polished and brushed sides, Tudor has a nicer case.

I would get the Omega in this configuration and the fact that it is a true LE and commemorates the moon landing makes it truly special. The Daytona is a cool watch and I have owned them in most configurations. The Daytona would win hands down against a standard Omega PM watch just for the value proposition but not in this case.

That speedy is so iconic it’s not even a close comparison. But people will always pick the crown because it’s perceived as better, a true WIS knows

Really🤪? 4130 movement in that Daytona my friend is in a superior class. How can one be a WIS and on TRF and not know that. There have been some really fine threads on the 4130 you might want to check out. But if you prefer the looks of the gold speedmaster than go for. it it is prettier

Yeah what was I thinking, the 4130 movement has way more horological significants then the reissue of the watches given to the Astronauts for walking on the MOON. I’d still rather have a SS Moon watch then a SS Daytona, the Daytona does nothing for me, I love the story of the speedy!

OP, assuming you know it will be very hard to find one of the LE Speedmasters new already. Pretty sure they sold out quickly when announced. Still I voted Speedmaster.
