Yes it’s still safe in Hong Kong and all Jewelry /Watch shops still open while people protest.

And few violent actions only against government / police / gangsters buildings.

I passed by Rolex in Causeway Bay, it still opened while 2 million citizens were protesting.

Well, I went in to check, still no SS models... then I took a picture outside the shop.

I remember it was the same if not worse with the 2014 protests. Good opportunity to buy.

Patek not immune. Visits to several ADs along Queen's Road Central and along Nathan Road reveal a lot of inventory (a lot more than usual) and salespeople say that a lot fewer Mainland customers in the recent weeks.

What kind of inventory was there just curious? Any better chance of a aqua or nauti?

Oh of course no Aquanaut or mens' Nautilus on display - they are only available on application to the distributor Libertas, who decides who gets each and every stainless steel Aquanaut / mens' Nautilus.

But a very full selection of annual calendars, perpetuals, ladies' watches (including Nautilus), and a few 5230.

My usual Patek AD is at the fullest it's ever been since I've known them. A very full inventory of watches right now.

Rewind back to May 2019 after China golden week holidays, there was just one or two watches on display in the whole shop for 2-3 weeks. My salesperson joked that there's no point in going to work if there's nothing to sell! (Oh, and she said "the shop looks like we've been robbed, with nothing left to display!")

I went at the beginning of May and saw one watch and a few sets of cuff links in one AD window

It's good (at least for us) that your AD had lady's nautilus in 7.2019.
I still have to wait for 5 months before getting 7118A blue dial for my wife from my AD.

Hong Kong has always been a huge watch market but that may be changing a bit with more stores opening up in mainland China.

The amazing numbers for me are how small Russia and India still are (relatively).
They should be able to eat up a lot of production in coming years.

The russian economy is not doing very well due to sanctions, low oil prices and a weak currency. Recovery will be hard, especially with Putins foreign policy which sets them up for more hard times in form of sanctions mostly.

Most Swiss watches are purchased by the middle class and upper middle class. Whereas this group has ballooned significantly in places like China over the past 10 years, my impression is that in Russia and India, there is a small group of wealthy and then a huge group of everyone else. So it will be interesting to see if Patek will ever open up an AD in India.

Wow this was interesting for me. I wonder how many end up in each country. For example I know people from China used to travel to USA to buy and take back..

There's a big difference between Italy and Spain in watch exports numbers: 472.5 versus 190.1 Mil CHF. (Their populations are about 60 versus 50 Mil.)

Why this big difference??

I was just in HK to get a grand comp pre owned last week. The seller said they didn’t feel anything. It was almost biz as usual. Maybe it’s just him. Who knows.
