Airport body scan at USA airports
Dumb question: is it safe to stand in at those airport body scanner at a USA airport. Isn’t it a giant magnet that would jolt your Rolex?

This has been discussed here before, but iirc the magnetic forces aren't sufficient enough to damage a watch.

It's not an x ray. They got rid of all the backscatter x ray machines, everything is mm wave now

No problem with the magnetic force but one thing that does boil my p!ss is when security staff 'insist' I take my watch off, why?
There is no way on gods earth I am putting it in a tray in a busy airport where you're sometimes waiting 6-7 mins in a queue once your tray is already gone and sitting idle as you wait. Not a chance. Had more than one encounter over that issue. Let me beep if so and pat me down. No drama.

100% agreed - sometimes they use the security wand after passing through, but that's about it.

It is not a magnet, therefore safe for your watch.

If for some reason there isn’t a precheck line, just say you can’t lift your arms up that high - bad shoulder. It’s a quick pat down for a medical cause. You can also laugh when they get near your crotch, if you’re as antagonistic toward the TSA as I am. YMMV |

No problems here.
I find if I lift my hands above my head in the metal detector, I don't have to take my watch off. I think the machine is more sensitive in the mid section. I haven't had to take off the SD43 yet for TSA. I would hate to put it in the tray without a case. |
