Topics you enjoy

After reading some posts about people not enjoying certain types of posts, I thought it would be interesting to see what sort of discussion topics people enjoy, or not.

It’s probably better than people complaining about reading rants they don’t want to read about.

I personally like:

a) Scarcity discussions (the situation fascinates me, as do fanciful theories)

b) Rolex as a brand, an idea, something so intangible yet so sought after. The history, and structure of the Rolex organisation.

c) AD practices (always get some name calling there)

d) Discussion of greys and flippers, and the associated moral judgements passed

e) Certain Incomings or questions about specific models I either have, or am very interested in, otherwise don’t really care

I rather dislike:

a) Discussion of grey price threads. Posting
‘wow, ref xxx has hit $xxx’! ‘The price of Ref xxx is insane’.

b) Watches as investment threads. Sure it can be an investment class for a select few, nothing more than pure speculation for everyone else trying their hand. Such discussions on a generalist discussion like this tend to be have little value

c) WRUW / your watch and your car/outfit/dog etc

People do love them, but I’m not personally interested in what an internet stranger is wearing on any given day.

d) Technical discussions. Apart from occasional strap changes, I must admit I care very little for technical watch issues.

Bottom line: anyone can post what they want, if I don’t enjoy the topic I’ll simply skip it.

Click bait, except in very rare instances excepted! Clickbaiters be damned!

I’m sure there’re certain topics I’ve missed.

I enjoy threads lamenting "SS watch prices plateau" or drop. These are the same people who lament the high price of SS watches. They are unhappy if the price goes up or down.

I actually really enjoy technical discussions, especially regarding movements.

My favorites so far are threads of older watches with stories behind them.

Or threads of beat up watches.

Me too!

And restoration threads. Barn finds.

I stay away from the metrosexual stuff. Who cares about the goop in your hair, trimmed beard and skinny jeans matching the dial of your Rolex. Learn how to change a tire.

I agree those are cool too

Stuff like that. I guess I’m into watches as a life partner, and the scars we earn together.

I don't open the "Can I wear my watch in the ......" [plane/bath/cupboard/prison]
I do enjoy the personal reviews of references especially if I'm looking to purchase & peoples technical questions that I can learn from or contribute an honest opinion on.

I tend to agree with OP and AHORSEY, although I like reading about the technical aspects of a watch. I don't really know the ins and outs of a mechanical watch, and like to learn a bit.

I don't care about the subject matter as long as there is a good scrap and someone leaves in tears and the other person slams the door on the way out.

Is that wrong of me???

Maybe it's because I never had kids or obviously ...teenagers.

Paul’s threads... waiting for Jocke’s reply!

I read a lot of threads but I only post if I have something relevant or funny to say. Some threads are boring/repetitive but it is easy just to ignore them. Overall I can’t say I have a specific type of thread that I enjoy but I like when I learn something (about anything).

i enjoy competing threads on the same topic... like Hulk prices going up with another thread about them going down.

Sometimes i bump them both so they are listed right after each other on page 1

BLRO color threads are always fun too

I have done the same thing but people that refuse to search and ask rhetorical or subjective questions are too myopic to notice other threads. They do not seem to understand what a bulletin board is.

I like the WRUW threads, not because I'm interested so much in who's wearing what, but just to scroll through to look at all the watches.

Such threads would be more interesting and more easily navigated if members wouldn't hit quote for every watch they like.

I like to look at the watches, but scrolling through thirty quotes of the same post is a little much.

My favorite are the threads that ask, 'What is your favorite ______?"

Then I sit back and wait for the first respondent compelled to answer with a list of 10

closely related to what do you prefer A or B and then people write in all kinds of options besides the two choices

Almost like the OP had never considered anything but those two choices and only has ever heard of two watches

I also love the Rolex fans bashing HH brands because they are not worth it and are overpriced and then the same people then bash Tudor for being a too cheap Rolex, like somehow Rolex isn't gouging you too.

Also, "is it safe threads".... awsome. People always brag about how much of a tool watch Rolex is and then you have these threads. Nope they are not. Leave it at home, keep it out of the ocean, Bikes no way. Running, not a chance
