service quote £700 + glass

Just put a new to me 16610 from 2004 in to a jewllers that is an AD and also does Rolex servicing on site.

Do you think this good or bad price wise and what would you choose to have done

service £550

going to get done as was loosing 15 seconds a day and also had no origonal papers wirth the watch so the service will show athenticity.

Replace bezel as it has a non Rolex lum dot £40

Replace a link as incorect one fitted £55

Replace crown as it is dented £55

There is a very small mark on the glass edge you cant see but just feel
they quoted 3140 for that but not going foe that

also would old parts back
whats your thoughts

£550 is the standard Rolex service cost. Anything on top is usually optional, though if the watch has non OEM parts fitted then they will insist on replacing them with genuine ones as a condition of service, meaning you’ll have to pony up for the bezel and link. I’m assuming “3140” is meant to be £140 for the crystal, which also sounds about right. If it were me I’d just have the lot done and look forward to receiving an almost brand new looking watch back.

Rolex will not return the replaced parts.

+1 .... its worth the initial outlay at the end of the day

With regards to the crystal .... I would not give this a second thought to be replaced .... £140 for peace of mind is minimal in comparison.

Exactly what I was thinking.

It'll come back absolutely pristine

Just a personal opinion, but that does not sound to bad at all.

I wonder if sending directly to a UK RSC would result in a larger repair bill due to the RSC insisting on the replacement of Bracelet, sapphire etc etc?

I’m pretty sure they’re using a standard Rolex price list for the quote. £550 is definitely what RSC St James charges for a service and I’m pretty sure the crystal and link costs are the same too. If anything I have heard of AD’s charging more to facilitate servicing as they add in their “handling costs” for the back and forth with the service centre.

Edit: I may have misread your post in which case disregard.

Sorry, I am just a bit stunned, I payed less for a brand new sub with 5 year warranty and all papers a year ago.

Not a fan of the maxi case
and there is the problem finding avalability from an AD

I think condition matters, but if you like the watch then you paid a fair price. Service cost seems very reasonable too.

You said 3,140 British pounds for the crystal? That sounds way too high to me, as in 10 times what it would likely cost at a RSC. Take it or send it to a RSC and do the glass at the same time. Why skimp on it to save a few hundred and have to look at a damaged crystal for the next 10 yrs. good luck

That makes sense. Not spending the 140 for a new crystal is false economy, IMO.

What kind of frankenwatch was this? Incorrect link, lume point on bezel... Where you aware of those items before purchase? This + no papers + dented bezel + damaged sapphire... for 5250£ ....
Not gonna say 'back in the days' (oops, said it), but people tolerate a lot more crap for increased prices now!
I would go with the full service indeed, use a loupe to see the damage on the sapphire, if it's only a very slight chip, probably wouldnt do it, unless you swim and dive a lot (some other forumer posted an image of a chipped sapphire that upon magnification showed a crack).

These sound accurate to me. Recently had a 16710 fully overhauled at the NY RSC and the base service was $750, $72 for the crown, $180 for the crystal, $75 for the bezel insert (price was higher than usual as I wanted to keep the previous one).

I feel while not inexpensive that these prices are extremely reasonable based on what I see OEM parts going for on the sales board and other places.

Seems fair and I would personally have it all done. If your sending it in might as well come back perfect. I wouldn't flinch at spending an extra 140 for a new crystal on a 5000 watch. I am constantly in the water though so that would be a requirement for me.

I had my GMT 116710 serviced by Rolex St James, back in May, £715, this included new crystal and crown. Couldn't be more pleased, the watch is like new, I like pcls, and they really shine. Back in 5 weeks aswell.

Had my DSSD serviced 2 years ago and had a replacement rotor and i think the price was £580ish so sounds about right to me.

Also id have the crystal replaced for the sake of £140. Might as well whilst the rest is being done.

Have just been reading another thread about in house AD servicing and they said they did not got the watch back in a green Rolex pouch (was hoping for one)

And they did not get any Rolex paperwork or guarantee
I hope i have read this wrong as i do not have the original paperwork for the watch and was hoping the Rolex service paper work would do

You will only get the pouch and Rolex service paperwork, and the Rolex International Warranty, when the work is done by the RSC.

At an AD you only get what the AD provides, in-house.
