Think you mean inserts many font styles have been used on most all of the sports line up over the past 50 years. The so called flat four font was used on all the Sub SD range around 2002/4 perhaps later. And even replacement inserts from Rolex now black or green are mainly flat four font .But in the real world a insert is just a insert, whether pointed, flat four, or any other type on font. The aluminium inserts were made to be a easy cheap DIY yourself replacement no matter the style of fonts used.

Had a new bezel fitted when watch was serviced at RSC and it now does not have the flat 4 so it must have been wrong

The pointed 4 inserts must be the ones that they currently have in stock.

Rolex does not fit what your watch was originally equipped with, they fit the latest example for the model number.

Flat 4's were used in 03/04, which is also the change-over era.

Your original was most likely correct. What Rolex uses as service replacements are no
indicator of what was original to the piece

What was wrong with the old bezel from the picture it looks ok?

I have later 16610 it has the same original bezel as your replacement.
