Trade Daytona 116500LN for 116519LN
Gents,
I've come upon an opportunity to 'upgrade' from my 116500LN to a 116519LN (pre-owned) with additional cash. Sensible deal? Those who have - thoughts? Those who are thinking of it - thoughts? Those who would never - thoughts? Cheers |

It's a tricky one, I like both but found a bit of flare out on the OF from my wrist so I prefer the bracelet.

I just purchased the 116519LN a couple weeks ago. First PM piece and first Daytona. In fact, its the only Daytona that I ever really wanted. I love it!
That being said, I think it depends on what the numbers are and what you paid for your 116500LN. The spread between the 2 is relatively small depending on where you're purchasing them. Did you pay retail for the 116500LN? |

Depends on the amount of cash and the price you paid for the SS

I could see that trade if you absolutely love the WG, if you paid MSRP for the Daytona, and you do not have to add much cash. If this is just a deal that recently came about, and you paid grey for the Daytona - I would shy away from it. |

So it’s a Daytona worth, say $24k plus $5k cash for a Daytona worth $29k. What does it matter what OP paid for it? Is the decision different if he won it in a raffle?

The PM version is beautiful but I don't like rubber straps so I would like it with a PM bracelet like the PM Daytona with the blue dial.

I would if it were me. I'd trade almost any 6D SS for its used WG or Plat PM cousin right now - no, yesterday.
Regardless of what the market is paying on the secondary now, you can still order a new one at list as supplies will come back. Do the deal and order another if you don't like it. PM's are still PM's. |

The SS panda is already a cult classic. I have one and wouldn‘t exchange it for a gold one of any flavor.

Quite frankly - it's a beautiful piece. I've owned both the black and white versions and while I don't think it's worth it's current grey price - but it is an awesome piece! |

I don't think that SS is a 'panda'. Unless the generally accepted term for Panda has changed recently.

There is no SS panda. The subdials have black rings, but it's not a panda dial.
To the OP: Consider just keeping your 116500 and getting Oysterflex straps. Then you can swap back and forth between bracelet and rubber. And, for me at least, if I'm going PM I'm going yellow gold. Yes, the dial is cool on that particular WG Daytona, but there are similarly cool dials on the YG version. All that said, if you have the cash and really want the 116519, then sure. At least you still have the best modern Rolex on your wrist

No. There's no added value in having the 116519.

Both are essential (I have each).
This one is a fun game too - D500 plus 519 or 506.. |

I wouldn't make the trade. The SS White Dial is more rare

*has greater demand.
If you look at raw production numbers, the 519 is actually rarer (just search both model numbers on Chrono24). Regardless, this isn’t an important point to consider IMO. It comes down to which you like more. I vastly prefer (and own) the 116519LN so it got my vote. |

I would for a black, but not the white. While the dial and sunburst is really nice on the 116519, the white dial pops more visually with the contrast. Both is the easy answer, if only one, stay with the white.
Also, for my own wrists, the bracelet is more comfortable for the OF straps. I want them to add the glidelock clasps across the line before I add anything else that comes with OF. |

I would do it if I were you. The SS craze will die down eventually but PM can only go up because of their commodity prices

Scarcity drives prices. PM is more scarce than SS from a metal standpoint, yes. But SS Daytona’s are more rare relative to PM Daytona’s. This factors in supply and demand.

116500’s are not more rare than 116519’s. The 116500 may be harder to get, but there are more of them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Upgrade/downgrade/stay put with the watch you like more and not whether something is perceived as a better deal or better watch. Only you can determine if you like the watch more.
I think overall I like the SS more - aesthetics, comfortability, and the bracelet. I do love the 116519LN's dial. However, if the market wasn't so hot for the SS, I'm sure none of the PMs or TT would not be a part of the discussion. |
