Pre-Tiger Misnomer

I keep seeing Tudor 792X0 chronographs described as Pre-Tiger, meaning they are from before the Tiger Woods endorsement. But, based on serial number, bracelet style and lack of tritium, they are actually POST-Tigers.

Is this an attempt mislead and boost the value of a sale item or do people not realize that this reference continued after Tiger?

I suppose "post Tiger" doesn't sound as cool.

Probably not too much discussion to be had on this topic. Putting it out there because it gets my goat and hopefully someone will search the forum and see this before buying a non-tritium Pre-Tiger as some kind of added value.

I don't think anybody really cares. "Non Tiger" would work just as well.

I get the feeling it’s labeled pre tiger because it seems special and people do care.

More important is the 792xx series being mis-sold as Big Blocks.

I agree. I would hope that someone buying a big block would at least know what the case looks like. The “no tiger” could be confused as “pre tiger”, especially if it’s listed as such.

I have a 1996 pre Tiger blue face, personally I would not want "Tiger" on my watch, I would not mind whether it was pre or post !

This is how I always understood it... It’s a way of saying no Tiger branding on the watch which is a big plus for me. I could not wear a watch with an athlete’s name on it, no matter who it was.

Pretty amazing the amount of negativity people have for this topic. Please keep in mind this post is about sales adds referring to a watch being made BEFORE rather than AFTER a point in time. This is significant in collecting and value.

People endlessly discuss microscopic differences between references and act as if the watch is unwearable as a result. Some of these differences mean 10’s of thousands of dollars. It seems reasonable to me that pointing out a common misnomer in sales adds for this specific reference is a valid offering for future buyers.

Wether you hate tiger or Tudor or this particular reference, it’s not the topic.
