Why a Blue Dial
It seems the recent craze at least for the last few years has been blue dials. Not just for Rolex but for most brands. AP, Patek to name a couple. Why is this? Do most of you feel it really is that much better looking than the other options Rolex has? I’m just not sure. Here is a blue dial date just I had and flipped. I have another one coming only this time the Roman blue dial. I also owned the Silverdale at one point and to be honest I’m kind of partial to that. I’d be interested to hear what you guys think.

IMO blue dials provide a pop of color to the collection without being too "in your face".
I probably wouldn't have one as a one and only but in a collection they really work well. They've been popular for years now and for good reason. A masculine color with a bit of flair, my two The VC is borrowed (been eyeing it tho as a next) Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk |

I don’t know I think blue is in your face more than any other dial color. Of course I don’t really care because from my experience the vast majority of people don’t pay attention to watches with the exception of Watch people.

I think you get a lot more texture and depth than with a normal black dial. I agree black is better for a daily watch though

Blue adds some character without being too flashy and looks great on a stainless watch. It's an easy way to spice up a watch and seems to be universally appreciated, unlike some of the other alternatives like green or grey.

Blue gives a shot of color that is very easy to accessorize when dressing up or down. Blue is never out of style. I think it is that simple why it is so popular.

Do you think the blue dial DJ goes well in a suit? Better than the silver dial? Thanks

Almost. It depends on the suit. Both will look outstanding but the silver is more conservative than the blue. This is where your personal style might want your watch to not be so conservative or not. IMO: I think the blue has a touch more personality and might be more youthful looking in a power suit sort of way.

I like blue dial watches a lot, but I can't explain why. I think that has something to do with what goes on in my head.

I wore a blue dial TT Sub from 1997 for almost 20 years. Now wear a blue dial YG Submariner daily. It is just a great color for watch dials. The WG DD looks awesome in blue, the DJ models look fantastic in blue. IMO, most versatile dial as it can dress up or be casual for any type of clothing or environment. Even other watch brands with blue dials look great. I'm just a big fan of the color. BTW, all three of our vehicles are, you guessed it....BLUE!

Might simply be that it's the most conservative non-black/white color. And perhaps social media has something to do with driving the demand for it?

I like blue dials because I tend to wear some shade of blue just about every day.

I can understand the popularity of the blue, I have the blue dial DJ41. It's the hype for the green dial which I don't get.

Why a Blue Dial
It's important to me that I own a Blue Dial Rolex, but more important is the actual shade of blue. I have owned the 116622 Blue Dial YM, and although the Blue is beautiful, it was to dark and formal for me.
I really love the Smurf dial Rolex either in YG or WG. On the YG Sub, the Smurfy blue is amazing and a little bit raucous, but in a fun way... Blue and WG on a Formal watch like a DD or DJ, to me is sort of a cold combo, whereas if in YG, makes it more warm.

I think that blue and black are the most popular colours but the blue also allows for an easy to see sunburst dial that makes all the difference, remember the flat blue dial for the YG Subs were not that popular and became sunburst due to popular demand.
