Psychology..... Should I purchase?

Greetings,

I am new to the Forum. I have a dilemma of sorts. Not really. In the broad scheme of life. My authorized dealer has a sub date. They are in Mexico where I have a beach house. I had been on the list for a Hulk. My girlfriend is buying a two tone Daytona from them which is in.

The Hulk is the watch that I really want which is somewhat unique. I already have a Deep-Sea JC, a black on black GMT, and a pre-ceramic Sub. I feel it's kind of wrong just to buy this watch because it is, "desirable," but then you read about everyone that wants one and Hulk being potentially discounted... strange psychological mannerisms kick in.

Anyways, so far I haven't given them a definite answer yet. Certainly leaning towards no. Thoughts....

You'll get Hulk faster if you spend more money at the AD. Buy sub date.

Unfortunately, this is the correct answer. Resell it at MSRP if you feel bad "flipping it."

Depends on your AD (and where you are on "the list" for the Hulk and of, course, if it gets discontinued soon).

If they care more about money spent, buy it and sell here for fair price so another member can enjoy.

If they value your genuine interest in models that you actually want more, pass on it and reiterate interest for the LV.

Another option would be buying the black Sub and trading it in for an LV at one of the trusted sellers here. Prices have dipped a little and come Holiday season, they will probably go up again. Now would not be a bad time to buy from greys.

I would wait for the hulk but i can see a situation where i buy the SubC first while waiting for the Hulk, then decide to unload one once I have both in my possession. Good luck with your decision...

Use your common sense like any other purchase. Buy only what you want, intend to keep and enjoy. Why would you buy anything else?

If money is no object I would buy it and leave it new, maybe you will get a Hulk quicker, you can always flip the Sub

Get the sub date. Hope it pushes you up the 'list' for the hulk. If it doesn't or if the hulk get disco'd, sell it for a small profit.

Were it me, I would say "Thanks, but no thanks; I badly want the LV and would prefer the Sub go to someone who REALLY wants and would appreciate it."

And what of the "available now Sub" when you get tired of it because it is not what you really wanted and you still do not have your LV?

"IF" your AD is a reasonable and caring one, your lack of taking their current Sub should impress them somewhat and they will hopefully realize what a serious person you are. A good impression is a lasting impression.

That sort of thing can go a long way in an AD's attitude toward you. (At least, that attitude seemed to have worked for me getting two hard to obtain models, when I passed over a GMT that I had no interest in. My Sales rep was surprised when I passed and said what I really wanted first was an Explorer, which they did get for me months later. Later came a Milgauss.)

Buying "just because it is there and is hard to get" is a selfish, childish act that ultimately deprives some one else of getting their dream watch.

What if the role was reversed and you were denied an LV due to someone else scarfing it up "because it was there and is hard to obtain?"

So would I.

So much negative comment about greed and greys. It doesn't get more greedy than buying something you don't want.

I bought my BLNR sight unseen, because it was available and hard to get, even though at the time I had no interest in buying a GMT, but man am I glad I did.

I even experienced some buyer's remorse while waiting for it to arrive, but once I laid eyes on it, I was convinced that it was the best watch buy I'd made to date.

It was so much more visually stunning than any picture could convey and to this day, I am so glad a took a chance and bought a watch that I wasn't that interested in buying at the time.

I do agree that snatching up watches, just to cash in on the high-demand market is ethically questionable, but sometimes going out on a limb yields some nice results.'

I wouldn't buy something just because it's available. However, if buying the LN opens the door to a Hulk from this AD, then it may be the right move.

Tell them you would rather have the hulk, but are curious if the Sub purchase will assist you in achieving the watch you prefer.

Then buy the Sub based on the answer.

It doesn't sound like you love the SubD enough to keep it. Easy to pass and wait, (I would) Easy to buy and flip if you want to invest the time. No idea if 'playing the game' by buying the Sub will help you climb the ADs ladder quicker to the Hulk but buying the Sub sounds like a win either way. Personally l like the black dial more and would keep it.

I appreciate all the comments. Doesn't make the gut check for me. At the end of the day, I already have one. Someone who really wants that watch should have it. I'll wait for the one that I really want. Hopefully, they do me solid.

Thanks again.

Depends on your situation, but for me I would buy the black sub C date and the Hulk when it came in. Practice what I preach... I bought the black sub...Then I bought hulk...In love with both...They each have their own personality.
