Brazil ADs

The local grey dealer told me that Brazil ADs may have the popular sport models in stock.

Can anyone confirm this is true?

I have a hard time believing this.

And this shouldn’t have changed over a Rolex sponsored F1 weekend.

I was in Rio de Janeiro in October last year and walked randomly into a Rolex AD in a mall. Said innocently "Hey i'm looking for a very hard to find SS model, the Deepsea D-Blue 126660".
The vendor replied straight away "Yes sir I have it, we received it last week"

I obviously shouted "OH!! I TAKE IT!!!"

So yes, it can happen!!
Take your shot at Rolex AD in Brazil

True, no SS daytonas and gmt2's ofcource but the rest yes. Subs/EXP2/SD/Skydweller etc can be found if you walk in at the right moment.

The price for a sub here is something close to 10,000 USD.

Not very easy for the average brazilians to get their hands on a Rolex, considering our base monthly salary of 230 USD.

The governmet taxes watches in 56,14%. I have no idea why the final price isn't higher, knowing that.

A few years ago a Rolex here was so expensive that it was cheaper to travel 30 days to the US, buy it there, and enjoy some nice vacations.

Since most costumers were doing that, they are now trying to match the price.

A lot of the Grey dealers have watches that sport Brazilian tags. So they are coming the the US from there.

Rolex is smart. I suspect they take far less profit margin in Brazil to keep prices on pair with other countries. Otherwise people would just buy abroad or dont buy at all. All imported goods in Brazil costs double or triple compared to the US/Europe. Only an idiot would pay double or triple for a watch while they can simply fly to Miami, enjoy a 2 week holiday, get the same watch and still spent less if bought localy.

56% taxes, that is quite a rip off.
In the EU taxes are about 20%, I already find that very steep.
I was in Sao Paulo last December. Selection was better then in Europe.

been doing brazilian jiu-jitsu for a decade but this is the first time i've wanted to make the trip down to brazil lol. TBH a lot of the stories I hear about crime & safety down there make me wary to travel to the country at all, let alone to purchase a several thousand dollar watch(s).

Im from Brazil. Im in the list for a steel Daytona in 3 different ADs from 3 different states. They are talking about 3 years. They get calls from all over the country, from people asking for the same steel models.

A few weeks ago I went to the AD, and they offered me a no date sub. It was hidden, only for "special clients". Im not a sub guy, so I passed.

So I think its pretty much the same thing from the rest of the world. They are hard to find, but sometimes you can get lucky.

Im building a precious metal collection, because I cant find the steel models I want.

Forget SP/RIO, try other states. Up to 2 years ago anyone could walk in and get on the list for a ss daytona. Talking about first time customers. All required was a small deposit and the waiting lists were real. It could take 2/3 years but you would get it. I told the owner that was crazy and they should sell it to VIP or collectors/people they know that are not flippers only.

Last time i asked they had 20+ on the list and with 2/3 SS daytonas they receive a year its kind of pointless now. I got my white dial from them and my black dial is expected within 3/6 months.

Local currency is weak at the moment so tourists with EUR/USD could get a good deal. Prices in local currency are on the Rolex (Brazil) site. Prices shown are for the hot models like the daytona/gmt2, for most other models you can get a discount (5 to 15%).

As for safety issues. Well, the AD's i know are in shoppingcenters or high end Streets. They all have security and if you prefer they will walk you to your car/taxi maybe even your hotel. I simply put the AD/branded bag in some clothingstore bag and walk out. When i visited an AD that holds Patek they even offered to personaly deliver it to me at my next stop in a different state. ps: Dont bother try to buy a SS or any Patek in Brazil. Unlike Rolex the prices are much higher and no you wont find a 5711, i tried:)

I am from Brazil and yes, you can find some sports SS models available like subs (no LV thought), GMT LN, YM and eventually a white or black dial SkyDweller. But dont expect any Daytonas or Pepsis. The Batman Jubilee are starting to show also.

That’s not true. You can find Milgaus, Explorer and DJ... nothing else! But if you have a nice relationship with the AD you can find an GMT in some months, but only if have spent there before
