Aquanaut; Best way to check authenticity?
Hey guys!
I received a PP Aquanaut from a friend when he couldn't pay off a loan. He didn't have papers or a box, but of course he swore it was 100% authentic. I don't really wear Patek Philippes so I was wondering what the best way to go about finding it's authenticity? I know with all my Richard Milles I can just take them to one of their boutiques. I have a picture if that helps at all (but it won't let me post it because I'm new here). Can send it on PM if you're trying to help. Based on looking at other pictures online the date numbers look a bit small for the dial. Any help is GREATLY appreciated! THANKS GUYS! |

I’m no expert but I’d look at the movement. Look for the Patek seal, gold rotor and level of finishing

Why wouldn’t you just take it to a Patek boutique?
And if you are wealthy enough to own a Mille, and your friends wear Pateks, is there really any reason for concern? |

If the date looks small it is probably real. But you should check out the back, there are many pictures on Youtube, etc. or you could google Aquanaut movement. Compare them.

I haven’t but it’s much easier to identify a bogus Patek with open case back than say a submariner that’s for sure.

Depend on how old is your Aquanaut. The cal 314 or 324 can be seen from the see thru case back and that’s fastest way to check if your Patek is authentic or not. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Bezel finishing, date position, numbers...
Backside is probably the best way to check for. |

It is very straightforward, just bring it to your Patek agent for authentication at a small fee.

Patek does not reissue the Certificate of Origin (= papers) but you can order an Extract of the Archives for a small fee that includes watch type and numbers, date of manufacturing, and date of sale. I also assume that Patek make sure that the watch isn't registered as stolen before issuing the Extract of the Achives.

https://www.patek.com/en/retail-serv...sked-questions Keep in mind that the watch must be at least 5 years old for Patek to provide you with this paperwork. As others have stated, the quality and detail of an authentic Patek movement is difficult to fake and should not be hard to identify, particularly if you're already familiar with high end horology. |
