Watch prices and keeping what you have

This topic has been discussed a million time so I will keep it brief. I made a quick visit to my favorite AD over the lunch hour and looked at a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic, a watch I would certainly like to add to my collection. The only one they had was the solid gold version. It was beautiful. It was priced at $19,000. The stainless is considerably less expensive, somewhere between $8,000 and $10,000 I would guess. I don't think I would spend it even if I had it with the times the way they are. I could not justify it with 2 in college. I have 2 Rolex and probably will have the
same 2 from now on out, I have to plans to sell/trade. Makes me think that the 2 "high end" watches I have now are fine and if I want to add something else down the road, it can be something much less expensive. Over the years I have come to realize that you don't have to spend a lot on a watch to get a nice one. I have been wearing a vintage Girard-Perregaux on an alligator strap with deployant buckle for the last 3 weeks and could not be happier.
Could almost pass as a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control and just as nice a watch, although a bit older.

i can relate. if you look at it objectively, owning 2 rolexes and a gp is a very fine and sufficient collection. either enough is enough, or it's never enough.

Well said, by both of the above posters. I love that JLC Master Geographic, too, but with the collapse of the economy as we've known it, I'm quite content that I have any nice watches at all, and I plan to cherish those I own rather than chase those I want.

I agree Dick and the older I get the more I realize I can only wear one at a time anyway. Life's too short. I hope all is well with you my friend.

I agree with Cody.

The watches you do have are already fine on their own. Anyway, when things do turn up, I'm sure you'll be able to add to your collection if you choose to do so.
