I'm not into the smart watches. With that being said they offer good utility and anyone looking to get one should heavily consider picking one up.

Worth it for the health features. Cheap by comparison to everything else this forum is about. Great return policy from Apple directly. Try it, and if you don't like it return it.

This is exactly what I did.... tried it for 2 weeks, returned it. No hassle at all.

I regarded it as a companion to an iPhone - something I didn't need. Besides which, I would rather wear a beautifully made mechanical watch rather than a little calculator.

I don’t wear two watches and the addition of an Apple Watch means the subtraction of a mechanical one and that my friend is a deal breaker. I think apple watches are corny personally but it’s because everyone has one

I prefer mechanical timepieces myself, but there are benefits such as FitBit features. On a funny note I remember a few years ago some members were saying Rolex was done and everyone would only be wearing Apple going forward lol

Being a huge mechanical timepiece guy...I do have one.

I only wear the Apple Watch for working out and sleeping. I am an avid trainer and gym goer so I love to read my heart rate when I am doing any type of HIIT (high intensity interval training) and seeing what my active caloric output is. I can also leave my phone down or in the bag and change songs and get messages if needed. For sleep, I really like using an app called My Pillow. It tracks heart rate, deep sleep, REM, and light sleep. It also gives me a historical track on how i have been sleeping and recovering from the gym.

Bottom line is that most watches are tools, and I find that the Apple Watch (albeit technology that will be obsolete every year) really helps with my lifestyle and fitness goals. I think that any collection could benefit with one. But, the Apple Watch is not a daily wear; I do switch to a mechanical as soon as I get home or shower.

I knew someone who wore a Tag on one wrist and an Apple Watch on the other. It has been done. Whether I would do it is a different story.

Also, like mine for health features. However, I wear mine on my bicep, daily.

A definite YES for me. I have an Apple watch along with my collection of mechanicals. Different tool for a different purpose. As others have said, it is fantastic for wearing while exercising - the automatic tracking is just fantastic. And, there are some days I prefer not to wear an expensive watch for various reasons - it is a great and functional alternative that goes just about anywhere.

Having cell service on it is AWESOME. There are times when I'd rather not carry a mobile phone if I can avoid it but might want to be reachable "just in case". Of course, having a conversation with your wrist has its own issues, but knowing I can take any important calls and at least acknowledge them without a separate phone is a nice convenience.

For the small investment, why not.

Had this issue somewhat as well. My tattoo on my left arm ends right about where my watches sit, so if the Apple watch slide up my arm even a little, it the sensors didn't work. I eventually returned it before the return time was up.

I wear mine on my right wrist, but not all the time. I wear it when I would like to use the functions - activity, buzz on wrist when phone rings...

I recently came out of "retirement" for a killer job op and had to stop wearing the apple watch because of all of the interruptions. Now I wear my Explorer II everyday to the office.

I wear my black SS series 4 on my right wrist and my mechanical on my left. Strangely I have only received comments from watch people. Regular folks never notice or ask me about it.

Mrs cop loves hers, I’d say that if I wasn’t into mechanical watches I’d probably switch off and on between a G shock and an Apple Watch. The convenience of having cell service and being able to text without writing seems quite nice.

I bought 3 cause it was so cheap. One for each of us. My kid wears it to school every day over the g shock. Wife never wears it...always on charger. I’ve worn it maybe 3x. I got a new leather strap so it helps

I had one when they first came out and it slowly got phased out and just sat on the charger after the novelty wore off. Bought one for the GF too and now she only wears mine ( larger sized) when we hike or workout. I really don't miss it and always have my phone on me for any info I may need that my mechanical watch doesn't give. I assume for something like swimming or other sports it would be a benefit but just a personal opinion.

IMO there is also another side to an apple watch many don't realize and that is your first impression and how you may be perceived in business circles. All else being equal , it's just hard to be taken seriously wearing one. I'm not saying that is right or fair but it really is something to consider and while many won't say anything, it happens a lot.

Actually I kind of have a different take. Most top executives I know wear Apple watches and I think it might be harder to take the person who spends 6 figures on his watch seriously. In fact whenever I go to key meetings I leave my nice watches behind as I don’t want to be perceived as foolish with my money.

So maybe you and some people you know feel that way about people wearing Apple watches or smart watches in general but know that they might be thinking the same thing about you.

I would agree that when I go to business meetings I am conscious of what is on my wrist and the impression it might leave. A smart watch is a pretty neutral option and safe bet for most business settings.

Personally though that is where I like Nomos and I am trying out Tudor - something a watch person will spot and appreciate, but the general public will have no prejudices about.

Never said I feel that way, just that I have heard it discussed countless times amongst very successful circles constantly. There will always be people that "make fun" of expensive cars, watches and other luxury items and I find the people that do so seem to have their opinion coming more from negativity and or jealousy than logic. I have yet to hear of any true "top executive" or very successful person think of these things as "foolish" unless the person buying them is perceived to be living beyond their means. If they can afford it, then it's just a decision some might not agree with which is just a personal choice.

Ultimately I meant no offence. I bought an apple watch myself and bought them for most of my family. I'm just being honest on how an apple watch may be perceived since "thoughts on the Apple watch" it the topic of the OP, not thoughts on "expensive" watches.

No offense taken. It’s just most top executives I know as in CEO’s, are very pragmatic and practical people. They tend to dive pick up trucks or SUV’s and wear Apple watches. I also can say I am just not around people or in circles where people talk about what watch someone wears. I find most people outside of the forums and in the real world are just not into watches like we are.

I tried it for a month or two when this latest version came out. Wore it on my right wrist to keep a mechanical on my left.

Notifications and health tracking info was helpful, but I found that wearing it at the same time drew too much attention to the mechanical watch on my other wrist. Didn’t really enjoy that.

Also the running tracking and interface was nothing compared to my old garmin forerunner so it wasn’t a great replacement for a digital sports watch either.

Got an Oura ring for sleep and health tracking - fits with any proper watch I want to wear and gives all the passive health data without requiring any of wrist space. Garmin goes on for runs.

Apple Watch could still be a decent option for a business trip or so other trips, but I think for day to day something like an Oura in ring sized form factor is ideal for health tracking. Notifications are more of a nice to have.

I have the Series 4 and it’s incredibly useful. As much as I love my mechanical watches, if I could only wear one watch from here on out, it would be the Apple Watch.

apple watches

I own one, and for a time I loved it. But it gets and will in the future get zero wrist time.

It takes being connected to an obscenely obtrusive level. No matter the importance of the moment, your watch is tapping you. A distraction from the here and now.

Short of a connected device without carrying your larger connected device, it’s perpetuating our modern existence as slaves to text messages, instagram, etc etc.

Buy it, enjoy it, then deny it the strength to own and track you.

This is pretty much why I’ll never get an Apple Watch for daily wear (only exception would be getting it as a workout accessory). The last thing I want is to be more “connected” than I already am.
