2009 will be a disastrous year for Rolex sales worldwide. The question is how can they fix it ? I think they have to bring out some brick and mortar old reliables, like a SS Sub, a better DJ, and improvements to the GMT II C. They also have to eliminate a vast majority of bling junk that wastes resources and time. And how about a novel marketing program.....Reduce the price!! It's called supply and demand. The demand is down, down, down. If they want to sell stuff, lower the price!!

I strongly agree with you, I find myself in a tough spot. I like you love Rolex. I love my Rolex collection. I hate the fact I am mad at Rolex about their price increase madness. I feel we as collectors have to take a stand. When I bought my first Rolex it was $1,500 US. If the watches cost $5,000 plus back then I would have never colllected Rolex as a young man I would not have been able to afford such a watch.

At this rate what will future prospective buyers do how many 20+ year old kids can shell out what a Rolex sells for now?

Many young people today don't even wear watches, they use a cell phone as their watch/clock. Rolex needs to attract future customers. Endless greed with endless price hikes will only stop Rolex sells. I would like to see Rolex do the right thing and lower their prices (as many companies have done in these times.) I will not hold my breath. IMHO

There is always the other way of looking at it though.
If Rolex prices their watches in such a way that the rich/well off can still buy at the same rate, but giving Rolex say 30% higher take then they can sustain a 30% drop in sales.
Which is probably a large chunk if not the entire sales to the average Joe, like a large amount of forum members.

Business is business, they don't care who buy's their watches as long as there is enough turnover and profit involved.

The other plus for them is if us idiots keep buying too, they have it made

They should decrease production, increase quality and after market service.

Then continue with price increases

.

I think Rolex is value (even today) for money compared to most other brands.
