Which Daydate?

Been seeing and admiring a whole lot of stunning Daydates here these past few days thanks to you lot.

So while we’re on Daydates, what is the metal mix/your choice of PM?

This is for everyone, including past, present and prospective owners.

Please feel free to mention which model as well, dd40/ddII/dd36 etc.

Thanks for this thread. I am recently beginning my journey to acquire the grail, 118238 Daydate. I am struggling deciding between a white gold model post 2003 or yellow gold model post 2003. White gold would be so I could wear it daily and go unnoticed. Yellow gold I wouldn't be able to wear to work and what not so it's a tough call. I'm still months out though!

I have DD 36 YG champagne dial (just picked up) and a DD 40 RG Olive dial. Love them both but the olive dial is really stunning.

Is there a feature you're looking at that only starts from 2004 onward? If so, do you mind sharing what it is?

In answer to the question posed, I'm partial to the platinum watches. I'm also a fan of the classic 36mm, but I love some of the new 40mm dials, particularly the diagonal motif and quadrant motif.

Yes, I believe 2003 and after have the updated "fat buckle". That's the one I would want.

I've been looking around a bit to pick one up and have seen 2002 models (or at least listings claiming 2002 models) with the newer buckle. I'm not sure exactly when it rolled out, but there may be some additional flexibility in your date range.

I love the dials available on the platinum watches. Wish I had $70k+ to spend on one.

I like the Ice Blue Baguette Dial

I’d love any of them really, but white metal suits my style best. I voted platinum mainly on the count of the glacier dials.

Your first Day Date NEEDS to be Yellow Gold AND DD40 full stop.

If its your first, go for classic yellow gold with a Champagne or white dial. My next choice would be the platinum, however that's a recent trend and the gold has stood the test of time longer. Quite appealing.

I would really struggle deciding between yellow gold and Everose. I think I would end up with the latter though.

YG is classic and gets you noticed from a city block away. No argument there. Definitely the DD40. No argument there.

But for me...it was RG sun dust and sticks.

Love the platinum but wish it came with a fluted bezel. Yellow gold, fluted bezel wins my vote.

I passed on a platinum DD40 because it was just way too heavy and I swear the WG is slightly heavier than the RG but can’t confirm.

I would go in this order

Platinum
White Gold
Rose Gold
Yellow Gold

I'd probably go DD40 now but would have no problem with a DDII.
I have no problem with the proportions of the DDII like some people do.

I had the YG Champagne dial. My next will be silver or silver motif. Both are stunning in person.

Yellow gold. 118238.

To me, it is the quintessential Rolex. Perfect size for this type of watch. It wears larger than you would think.
