My little story

Hello!
After lurking in the shadows of this forum for some time, I thought I’d take the plunge. This is my first post on a forum. Ever. So...

I wasn’t really into watches. Then, during one of many breaks ( these are an essential part of being a tradesman), I saw a Hulk in a jewellers. When you know, you know. Whether it’s a house, a car or significant other, you get that “It will be mine” feeling. This was years ago, about 2011ish. At the time I didn’t have that sort of wedge lying around. About a year later I had a little surplus funds and thought I deserved a treat so “popped in to my local AD to pick me up a hulk”. Her indoors wanted to go on holiday but I made an executive decision that I needed a watch more. Well, I soon realised that buying a Rolex wasn’t that straight forward! They didn’t have any and started to quiz me, asking what I did for a living where I lived. I’ve never had to pass a test before to get something from a shop. I thought they were going give me a medical at one point! After the Spanish Inquisition they said they would put me on a waiting list. Exciting, I thought. A list. I didn’t see them write my details down so they probably did it after I left. Well, about a year later we went on that holiday she was after. Whilst we were in Vegas I noticed the hulk sitting in the window of a shop in the Bellagio. Went in and tried it on, it made me remember how much I wanted it. However, I was in no position to blow the holiday spends on a watch when we still had 3 weeks in Palm Springs to finance. So I did the honourable thing and passed, then threw a massive strop and made every ones life a misery for the next few days. Fast forward a few years and the itch returned. Went back to my AD to see how that list was getting on.

continued.

Turns out the list was longer! She didn't even check, must have it memorised! I lose hope and forget about. Sometime later my 40th is coming up, she's working more, there's whispering. Either I'm getting a good present or she's having an affair. The brain goes into overdrive. I'm getting a watch. Or a divorce. Either way its win/win. 40th comes, my brother drops me a Rolex box. Its a moody hulk from Thailand, he thinks it's hilarious whilst I'm destroyed. Secretly I think the real ones coming, any minute. It doesn't. My birthday's in November so come Christmas the brain starts whirring. I'm getting a watch! Christmas day comes. I don't get a watch. I was gutted but not one to make a fuss, so I just smashed some stuff up. The following Feb I'm sitting in front of the tv and the mrs drops my grail watch in my lap! She'd been conspiring with my brother, as we were by now avid watch fans, and had been saving up for 18 months. The 40th was the goal but she come up short. It then moved to Christmas but again she didn't have enough. She had to pay £10450 from grey which is a lot of money to us. The only problem now is I'm too bloody scared to wear it incase I damage it! I know what your all going to say. She's lucky to have me!
Look after yourselves.

This was an epic conclusion. And provoked some quality laughs. Well done & congratulations!

Best quote I've seen in quite some time. Thanks for the laugh!

And welcome!

By the way, you're not the only one with posting issues. Every time I have attempted to post a pic, except once, it showed up rotated 90 degrees.

For your first 10 posts. Just post one word. It will post immediately, and then “edit” it. That’s the work around to avoid the mod approvals.

Welcome to the board, I’m new myself, I’ve been in numerous stores over the last 2.5 years and am no nearer achieving a watch, most AD’s I’ve been to seem to treat me with disdain.

Never a waste of time, always good to hear other people’s experiences, waiting for part 2, hopefully with some pics.

Mate, pics? This is proper alien to me. It would be quicker for me to draw you a picture and hand deliver it to your house!

I know what you mean, I tried to upload a pic once and not being a technical genius I had to give up.

ahh mate, please! It's not gonna be that good, it's been built up too much. Literally my worst nightmare for my first posts. With the exception that there's some way you can all see me naked through this camera.
And I'm wearing clothes!

I'll get one of the kids to show me how to do the photos tomorrow. Maybe. Depends what's happening with the moderators thing and whether part 2 is forever lost somewhere on the information super highway I suppose. If it doesn't materialise before the evenings out, I might have another crack at it tomorrow. Though my typing finger might be too sore! Maybe I could do an alternative ending?

Welcome to the new members on the thread. For any struggling with attaching a photo - please read the various stickies and you should have no trouble.

Remember to stay within the published size limits and you’re fine.

From a mobile device, make your life even easier by using the TapaTalk App.

If you wish to link to an external photo hosting site, remember that means a link and that means having 10 or more posts.

And if it’s too much trouble, other fora beckon...
