Would you trade your SS Daytona for Gold ceramic OF?

Hello fellow WIS! Bored out of my mind at home and have been thinking about trading one of my SS ceramic Daytonas(have white and black dial) for either the WG or YG version. I was leaning towards letting my white dial go. What say all of you?

I agree but it's not really a true Panda, more an ageing Panda who has gone grey.

Don’t have a deal in place as I am thinking about it. I doubt a deal would be even. Would likely have to add cash.

Understood. Id say you’d probably look at parting ways with 4-5k USD considering the ss ceramics market value. Id recommend going to an AD. They often buy pieces for pre owned inventory and price them to market value and you can have them order you an oysterflex PM

Lately I've really come around to the yellow gold OF, and think that I prefer it to the white gold version. The contrast between the black and yellow gold is more pronounced.

The hour markers on the YG standout better as they have a black border around them. Better readability compared to the WG one. But the silver/gray dial on the WG is nicer.

Absolutely. If i could keep One, the gold hands down.

But I’d keep the white and let the black go.

Doctor Rick,
May I suggest that you consider the RG Daytona and then flip a coin as to which SS model you swap (plus about 5-7K)....

I'd trade my white SS ceramic for the yellow gold Paul Newman dial ceramic in a second.

If I owned both the SS black dial and SS white dial, I too would trade the white dial, and keep the black dial. If I was doing this trade I would contact one of the many known re sellers and try to get max dollars for the white dial and a discount on the PM piece. As you mentioned yes you would need to put in some cash. Many resellers like Takuya, David, etc, have all of these to purchase. The only Issue will be sizing the Oyster flex strap. The straps are designated a letter sizing system that corresponds to length. Buying from the re seller market may, or may not, come with the straps in your size, and you would have to add the expense of purchasing the correct size for you. Good luck with this and post photos.

I would definitely trade either of the SS for either of the PM OFs. The SS DaytonaC is about as over-hyped a watch as there is (and I have one and like it). The PMs are much nicer IMO.

Nope, metal for rubber is a poor move. The Oysterflex is a very weird thing and quite difficult to get a fit you are comfortable with.

I had a 116500 and loved it. I impulsively added a 116519 LN and intended to keep them both. Six months later I realised that I’d only worn the 116500 a couple of times in that period, so sold it to a friend.

The 116500 is a great watch, but the 116519 is different league.

Listen to people who have had both, and try to avoid listening to those obsessed by the hard-to-get hype.

I would say though that OF isn’t for everyone.

Traveled to Miami in May 2016 to an after Basel watch event at a boutique Rolex AD where I made a full price deposit on the white dial Ceramic Daytona. Delivery came in March of 2017 and I was so happy to have gotten this, I will never sell or trade it...

I think it's a good move, considering you have both steel models.

As far as which OF, I'm hugely biased, as the WG is one of my favorites in a collection made up of favorites.

I had a white dial 500 and flipped it towards the 519. I couldn’t be happier. Since you have both white and black, the hardest part would be which one to let go. I’m leaning toward keeping the white.

Good luck and good hunting. Here’s some inspiration.

If I had a SS Daytona I'd trade it in for a WG OF silver dial if money were no object...and I'd trade your black dial instead of the white but that's just me.

I’m thinking about the WG OF. In your situation, I’d let the black dial go and get the WG. That’s because most of my collection are black dial sport models. It’s nice to keep a white dial. Depends on your collection... happy hunting.

Not me.

Admittedly I haven’t worn an oysterflex, ( have handled them and no what they’re about). Not meaning to disparage owners here who love them, but I’m just not a huge lover of rubber straps in general. I find them irksome to wear after a period of time. YMMV
