Though humble with only a DSSD and Monte Carlo Tudor, I had planned an SS Skydweller and then the Rolex universe changed. Not so interested any more.

Explore other brands. So many great watches out there.
Otherwise, just be content until your AD can get you a SkyD.

There's so many of these threads and comments at the moment.

Big world of watches out there... They don't all need to be Rolex!

I could not agree more. I think there is a lot of folks see these in insta whatever think it’s cool walk into an AD and then get immediately turned off. I can see that, but the way I see if if it’s not a watch with being patient for, then Probablly not worth getting.

For the OP,

Let’s get this straight - You want a highly coveted SS Rolex, that every collector wants, and because of a snafu, you’re willing to abandon Rolex because you can’t get one right now at MSRP??
May I humbly suggest that you consider buying a pre-owned SS Skydweller since you feel so strongly about owning one....

This,

If you look in the fridge and you do not see something you like, close the door, lower your standards and look again.

Nobody is forcing you to buy Rolex and although I understand your disappointment, this is the situation and you now know the choices you have.

And indeed, it is SNAFU

This will make one more SS Sky Dweller available to a home who will appreciate it. Well done OP. If you ain't for it, then it ain't for you. Lots of alternatives. Something for everyone.

DSSD humble? Really? Well, I suppose it's all relative.

A “snafu” is a snag. A delay or a problem. An unforeseen issue.....

Plenty of other brands on par or better than a Rolex at lower price points.

You already have 2 perfect watches! Be patience! DSSD is the King.

Rolex has not changed the game, it produces more watches than ever, the world wants its watches more than before. that's it.

Be patience that the SkyD is a annual calendar made by Rolex, unique!

I have a D blue DSSD and some other Rolex watches. I would also like to have a Sky D. Possibly a TT white, gold or black dial and probably can find one at or near MSRP if I decide to go after it.

There are comments concerning alternatives being available from other brands, so one doesn't necessarily have to get Rolex. Doesn't that depend on what you are looking for?

For example, if I want a 34mm three hand, center seconds, stainless steel, no case-back crystal, fully machined to high quality with a bracelet, not strap, then I don't think there are any alternatives to Rolex. In fact, same probably goes with the Oyster Perpetual 36 mm. What alternative is there to these fantastic watches. Not Tudor, Omega, Patek Philippe, ...

What alternatives?

Seiko and grand Seiko have a lot of models some of which fit your criteria. I like the cheap, lol, quartz GS at only £2.3k. I find haq watches interesting and some have said GS is equal if not better finished than Rolex.
Don't worry, I always don my flame retardant suit before commenting.
