One big AD on the east coast of the USA comes to mind.
In fact, this AD had some hard to get SS models in their pre-owned section like a Pepsi GMT, a near impossible to get one in their new section of the store. Happy pre-owned AD searching. |

All ADs are allowed to sell preowned Rolexes. There are rules like keeping them in a separate case from the new ones.
But not all ADs want to do this. Sometimes it is due to local ordinances requiring them to follow procedures like a pawn shop must. Other times they don’t have on-site watchmakers to rehab the preowned items. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

My AD sells a variety of used watches including Rolex. They don't have a big used inventory on display. Like new watches, they have customers waiting for specific used models.

Yes
And when those few AD's do, in my opinion it weakens the brand, I cannot believe Rolex allow it to be honest, hey buy this for $X or save some money and buy at list on the website.
Think about it, buying over retail is insane at the best of time, buying over retail in the same shop that you can buy at retail is well........ |

Not all but many do.
Especially with the limited supply on new models, a lot of independent ADs have turned to preowned to help supplement sales. |

Most do, as the money in pre-owned Rolex and PP watches are so strong now. Some do not display but most will trade or buy the right watch.

I'm guessing that the models that they have for sale second hand aren't available in the new section.

Mine leaned in that direction at one time. They don't now, at least to cold callers. Too many would be queue jumpers trying to "play the game". Existing customers get a pass, but the AD is selective. They won't consider a slow seller and they (more or less) limit the size/value of their used inventory.

I bought my 5 digit Explorer II from a local AD a few months ago.
So yes some do, others don’t. |

Tourneau (Palm Beach) seems to have a nice selection of second hand pieces. saw lots of interesting models there (when the SA i was talking to opened up some drawers under the main “preowned case”) that i hadn’t seen before in person. some classic 5 digits to modern 6 digits, all priced well above retail, even above average market price..
if you can’t wait to get the “the call” from an AD then I would recommend going grey.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My AD used to have a case of watches he referred to as their “little friends”! I think he was saying they stuck around for too long. Probably they were asking too much for them.

Agree with all the answers - simply depends on the ADs - more have been getting into pre-owned lately based on some discussions I have with several ADs while we were traveling....kind of makes sense based on current availability.

Wonder if ADs give better trade values nowadays. I’ve traded several at ADs over the years and have always take a pretty good haircut....but within the current market....I wonder.
I suspect if I wanted to go trade in one of my Daytonas, they would HAVE to be competitive if they wanted it....any experiences? (Not that I am. Lol) |

Tourneau pre-owned
The markup horror Oh, the markup horror The Salesman said "I'm Larry, the man with the plan. I got the watch and the interest-free financing plan. The internet has neither". The interest is built into the exorbitant prices. But don't forget they have the watch in stock and interest-free financing as the Salesman told me as I hurriedly walked out the door while he shouted "good luck finding online". |
