Smaller watches are growing on me

Granted I only have a 6" wrist, but i've always been into 40mm watches and 39mm recently. Even 42mm sometimes. Now that i've tried these vintage watches at 34mm, or even a tank at 23x30mm, i'm really liking it. In the beginning, I was only into black dials and 40mm. Now that i've tried white dials, rectangular cases, light brown straps, and now smaller watches, it goes to show how trying new things could shed some new light. Try new things everyone!

I think your 6" wrist is better suited to smaller sized dials, hence why you are liking them more now that you have actually tried them?

Yes, I think so. I remember when I tried on 34mm rolexes I felt they were small, but the salesmen would say i'm just not use to it.

Nice. I have a 7 inch wrist, but most days prefer wearing my DJ36. Very easy to wear and just disappears.

Traditionally men's watches I think are either 34mm or 36mm. Special purpose watches, such as one's designed for underwater diving, are 40mm.

I have a 7” wrist and nearly always wear a 34mm Air-King, so I agree! Before getting it, I had been not very seriously mulling over the smaller, quartz Tank Solo. When I tried the Tank on in an Omega boutique, the sales assistant tried to help by saying it was too small, and to look at the XL instead. Everyone’s different, but to me, these older style watches look best in their smaller, more original iterations.

Gonna try a few bigger Rolex next though.

Same here. I have two 34mm Rolex watches that I wear. A 1956 Oyster Perpetual and a circa 1960's Explorer.

Nothing wrong with wearing either one of them. A friend of mine today text me that he is thinking of selling his DD because 36mm seems to small to him now. He has had the watch 15 years. It seems small to him because he went out and bought several watches in the 40mm to 50mm range

I have a near 7.5” wrist and wear a 36mm 1016. It looks terrific.

The most absurd reason to not wear a smaller watch is fear of not looking “manly”. If you go into the Letterman’s lounge at Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, you will see nearly 80 year old me, huge and grizzled, wearing 32mm Cotton Bowl Omegas from National Championship football squads. Those smaller watches on those huge leathery forearms somehow look plenty manly.

Same with the old 31mm stainless steel army Hamiltons on veterans. It’s almost like being manly is what makes you look manly.
