Buying a Jumbo A-Series

Hi guys, I’ve been toying around with the idea of buying a Jumbo A-Series for the historical significance. Given the supply tightness for interesting modern pieces, I’ve decided to put aside some time to buy a vintage piece while the other stuff (hopefully) comes to fruition at some point.

Anyone have any pointers on dos and donts and what to look out for? Anyone at AP that’s worth running images of the watches by? Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated

Advice:
1. Ask if the watch has extract from archice records, i think it is 600 dollars to get it. Will tell you if any major repairs were done such as a movement swap.

2. Make sure crown amd dial are period correct, early AP do not have AP on crown, unless it is a service replacement. Dial is better if original, service dials drop the value slightly.

You’ll need to level set with regard to what your expectations are and align it with a budget, the A-series has shot up in price substantially over the course of the past two years. There are a multitude of things you’ll need to look out for that will have a significant impact on the price of the piece, such as the: dial, date wheel, hands, clasp, crown, movement, bracelet, and quality of the case. The serial number of the piece itself will also play a crucial role in valuation given the scarcity of the pieces. There are a lot of pieces out there that are Frankensteins in terms of having a service dial, incorrect date wheel, a period incorrect movement, and other features that to the untrained eye wouldn’t make a difference but significantly devalue the piece, meanwhile they’re represented as completely authentic.

If you want any help, feel free to shoot me a message.
