Icon5 First "vintage" purchase

While I inherited (and wear daily) a mid-80s 16013, I just purchased my first "vintage" piece - an "A" series Yacht-Master 16622 - from an estate/auction house. Although it did not come with box/papers, it appears to have possibly been a safe-queen for most of its life.

Few questions:
  • What link-pin must I use to attach the eighth link to the clasp?
  • Am I only able to remove excess links from the anterior (non-clasp connected) bracelet?
  • The bezel arrow at noon seems ever-so-slightly off by a quarter-minute/second to the left. Any thoughts?

Obviously not all can be aware of the multiple meanings putting things like “vintage” in quotations imparts.

Nice pick up. The bezel is nothing to worry About. If you have the patience you can take it off and refit it a few times until you get it bang on TDC. I wouldn’t bother.

1980 myself! ...I miss that era

I'm never disappointed by a Rolex dial in the sun

I really don't think you've got to worry about the bezel. Congrats on your buy.

So nobody bothered answering OP's questions, but half commented on him calling this "vintage"... nice!

1) The links on A serials have screws, not pins. On the other side of the links, you should see the screwhead. You need a hollow-ground screwdriver 1.6-1.7mm, preferably the one made by Rolex themselves (ref. 2100). On the other side of the screwdriver, this tool has a pin-pusher to adjust your clasp as well. There are many look-alike tools from 3rd parties.

2) You can add and remove links from either side. Depending on your wrist, most people would size the watch so that the clasp sits in the middle (approx). It actually seems that the previous owner took out all removable links from 6 o'clock, so I would probably add the extra you have on that side. And then check how it fits and adjust accordingly.

3) The bezel on the 16622 is bidirectional and has 120 clicks. Could it be as simple a fix as just move it one click to the right? Otherwise take it to a professional. Given your questions, I would not attempt to remove the bezel and reattach it myself (no offense).

Great find, by the way. I love the sparkling dial of the 16622!

Since faimag already answered your question I will add that you should not say it's vintage. It makes me feel like I have one foot in the grave and that's not very polite. lol

Great find OP.
