Remember that Rolex Day Date Question!?

Well well, the watch is indeed fake. I had it checked from 2 auth resellers.

I confronted my father in law and he was pretty darn upset. He lives in Karachi and had requested someone to get him a white gold day date from Dubai as my wedding present since only gold rolexes are available in Karachi. He is not an auth expert so he just trusted the guy and paid the money. (Btw, Dubai is notorious for fakes). Any whos .. now he told me he will take me personally to a Rolex showroom and get me a brand new Rolex. I can pick anything I want under 20K. However, humble that I am, I don't care much for the higher end rolexes. I'm thinking Submariner, Deep Sea, Explorer, or perhaps the Daytona ... suggestions???

Hold your horses, remember I have 20K at my disposal, but the watch doesn't have to be 20k ... A basic daytona can be bought at 10k?

Haha, but you'll have to pay for a ticket to Dubai .. and I'll be going in June. I don't know why but my mind is set on the Submariner Date and Deep Sea Dweller ... the only daytona that is attracting me is the stainless steel in white face.

I can tell you why...it's 'cause the Sub-Date & DSSD are two great watches! With that in mind, I can tell you I've owned a SubLV & standard Sub-Date...they are both gone now and the only Rolex left in my stable is the DSSD. I love the DS...without a doubt my favorite watch! Good luck with your decision.

2 months? Oh man...you are in trouble. In 60 days you will drive yourself crazy by either, 1) Obsessing over the idea of strapping the IIC to your wrist, or 2) Going back & forth over the idea of all the other models to choose from.

I guess the good news is if you are still 100% sure you want the IIC in 60 days, then it's the right watch for you. If you're still debating, then that could be a good indication that maybe you should think about another model. At any rate, hopefully you won't go too crazy during the waiting period. Good luck!

Ok so now you just put doubt in my mind .. great. I will actually not think about any model, but will just walk into the store and pick up whatever I like at that moment. Chances are they won't even have the GMT II in stock, you never know.

My inspiration watch is a Daytona, but my dream is a Patek.

Somehow buying a rolex from your own hard earn money as another feeling of high and self esteem... well thats just my opinion...

get whatever you fancy! 20k is very very generous! btw about Dubai , Yes there are many fakes available here but nobody cheats! You get what you pay for. IMHO you can get some very good deals on Original Rolexes.

No doubt. I just don't the details of what really happened, and I didn't really ask. The reason I'm going to Dubai is to see family and my father in law will also be visiting.

I'd replace the fake one with an authentic version of the same.

Wow, 20k, why don't you look at an AP or PP. I think it is silly to spend the crazy money on a gold Rolex. To me it is kinda like buying a PP or AP with a quartz movement.

We all know what a SS Sub costs, make it out of gold and it cost way more then just the gold.

Jeez Ron,

just sometimes (not very often) words fail me.

Now is there a Forum I could transfer you to?

The thought did cross my mind, however I rather try something different now ... as in a different style.

New WG Sub....looks kinda like SS (satisfy your solid gold urge), Hasceramic bezel and glidelock clasp (like the deepsea), and isn't seen that much (much like a Daytona). Yeah, it's some cash...but it hits all your wants with one watch.

Yes, I remember, and I was right. That thing was one of the worst replicas I've ever seen, sorry

Getting back to your question, I would suggest a Sub, as I am not a big fan of the others.

Good Luck

Sorry to hear you got a fake. Sounds like your father in law was duped, which is too bad. But given that he is your father in law, and that $20,000 is quite a bit of money, I would lighten his load by telling him that you appreciated the thought, but don't need him to buy you a replacement. Sure, normally I would not be a guy who would turn down a free Rolex, but if I was the father in law and got duped like that and my son in law figured out the watch was a fake, I would be embarrassed. For the sake of your future relationship, I would let this go and give myself a real Rolex later, when I had the money. Sorry for saying this, I would love a free Rolex myself. But in my experience, situations like this can bring a lot of resentment into a relationship.
