Just joined... The hobby and the forum :)

To be honest, calling this a hobby seems inappropriate but then again, classic car restoration is a hobby and that too requires significant investment.

I digress... My name is Harison, I am in SoCal. Got into this all by treating myself to a Breitling Navitimer and I love it. Now I have eyes on a sub--not sure if any of you know this... They are really hard to find new ;).

That's cool because I have come to learn that the five digits are cooler looking that the six (IMHO)... are opinions allowed, I know forums don't get a lot of those.

Right now I am standing at the precipice of spending some serious $ on a dive watch so I can sit at a desk... That does not cause trepidation, the prospect of making a $7k=$10k mistake is. At this point, I will be buying a 16610 but, I am wrapping my head around the authentication part of the transaction. I called the Rolex service center in Beverly Hills and they have a July 8 appointment available. Thinking about timing the transaction around an appointment there for them to verify.

Question for the group--am I going to a greater length than I need to. If I stick to some of the names in the who's who section of this forum am I safe?

Help a newb out! Thanks for the access to this forum as a resource!

Welcome to the forum. You are fortunate to live within driving distance of two excellent and trustworthy sources: OCROLEXGUY and JUSTROLEXES. Between the two, I have bought about a dozen watches over the years.

As this is your first Rolex, I suggest you visit Patrick (OCROLEXGUY) as he is in the same city as you. He has a store so you can meet him and touch the watch. This should provide you some level of comfort.

Thank you for the response. I will look at both these sellers.

Hello Harison!

You have already received some good advice here.

Welcome to TRF and you are right. It is not really a hobby. It is more of a 'sickness' with no cure.

Heh!
