Cleaning my new Oris- just how water proof?
Hello all- All of my current watches have a screw down crown, however my new Oris does not have this feature. On the case back it says water resistant to 5 bar. Based on this statement am I correct in assuming that a soft brush, running water and a little soap will be fine?

I don't think I would take the risk on this at all. It can stand being in the rain is about all. Running water of any kind can get inside of the case. A damp rag is about all that you should be cleaning it with.

Agree, and you risk staining the strap doing anything more.

I think you're safe with running water, as the gasket system in Oris is excellent (dual gaskets which eliminate the need for screw-down crown, unless you're diving). 50 meters is still 165 feet, so imho, you're safe. Matt is right though - take the strap off first. However, I would just recommend using a good polishing cloth and I think you'll be just fine!

Here is a good article that explains the different depths in bar language:

with micro fiber cloths a dime a dozen these days I find I am having to bath my watches less and less and just a good wipe down with a good cloth will do the trick. Of course with the band off you will be fine under running water.
I clean ALL my watches in the dishwasher on the pots and pan setting with jet dry and they come out great. j/k of course |
