Pay now, collect later

Hi guys,

I’ve just been offered a Deepsea James Cameron from an AD, only thing is I’m stuck away at work until October! They said I can pay now and collect whenever I can... is a lot of money to put out to wait 3 months though! What do you guys reckon? Obviously I’d love the watch at RRP.

Why not. It’s yours, you just can’t collect it. Not like you’re giving them a free loan

I did this at the beginning of Covid for a Batman and still haven’t had the time to pick it up but have confirmed it’s waiting for me!

Not sure what the question is? If you are looking for encouragement to pull the trigger I'm sure you'll get it

I'd do it. Get them to send you photos of the watch. They'll hold it for you until you can collect - unless there's anybody you could send to collect it for you?

Go for it, many people did similar during lockdown.
If you want the watch enough, it’s a no brainier, if not let someone keener take it now and try and get another later in the year

I’ve done this numerous times with my trusted AD. Just pay with a a credit card and have them send you photos and an invoice of the timepiece.

If my AD made me an offer like this I would take it. When I picked up a watch last week the Rolex Buyer mentioned a hot model he had waiting for a customer who would pick it up in a couple of months.

It comes down to who you trust. If you trust the AD, then take it. If you have a doubt, there is no doubt.

Pay and get it when you can; really not an issue. Otherwise let them pass it on and take the next one that becomes available.

I'd go for it...you'll have the watch when you're done working so it's guaranteed to be yours.

From your profile I’m guessing you’re on a ship or a rig somewhere and can’t trust a shipment.

If this is the watch you were waiting for, then by all means go for it. But take some precautions.

Make sure they will grant you assurance against loss during this waiting period to pick it up (and get it in writing). If that’s not possible, see if your homeowners/renters insurance company will underwrite it against loss despite never having it in your possession.

I’d hate to see a new thread, “My AD lost my new JC DSSD”.

Just make sure it works for you first. Would hate to wait that long only to realize the watch is too big for your wrist etc.
