Feedback Please - DSSD JC or Black

Starting to zero-in on next acquisition. Not sure whether I to go for Sea Dweller DEEPSEA JC or Sea Dweller DEEPSEA Black.

I love my Black VERY MUCH, but the JC is a super beauty! The black is the first one, classic and more professional look, the blue is more fashion (beauty).

IMHO the dial is what makes this reference, so for me it’s the Dblue all the way. The black dial just never did much for me YMMV

Black for me as I never thought the lime green writing on the JC was attractive. The black dial is more conservative to wear with everything imho.

Welcome to the forum; the Deepsea is a great watch regardless of dial. I have both 126660s, and to me the dial really creates a different feel. Black seems more utilitarian, simplistic and rugged, while the D-Blue - arguably one of Rolex’s best dials - is stunning and unique though more subtle than pictures might suggest.

I often think about downsizing to one, but can’t seem to get rid of either. In any case, it’s such a great reference, the pinnacle of Rolex dive watches with unbelievable capabilities. Good luck as you decide.

The only choice that matters is your own, both fine watches one has a slightly different dial and different fonts and thats about it in a nut shell.

I'd go with the classic Black dialed variant. Tried the JC and felt it never really was all that appealing, worth the premium etc. YMMV.

Maybe pick up the black dial. You could perhaps change the dial at first service? Haven’t heard of anyone doing that with this model, but may be possible.

Yeah no! Rolex will absolutely not do that during a service. There were certain references in the past where Rolex made concessions such as this and I think even those are not accepted anymore.
Imagine all the people running into an RSC asking to switch their Daytona, Deepsea or Datejust dials and how that can negatively impact authenticity, walk in with a regular Submariner and ask Rolex to switch the dial and bezel and walk out with an LV.

I’ve owned both and I would only choose the JC because there are so many black dial watches I aspire to own one day as well. The JC blue dial is one of the most beautiful dials in the Rolex catalog while watches like the 114060, Explorers 1 and 2 offer the fix I need in a black dial.
To be honest though, I really enjoyed my black Deepsea, the matte dial and domed crystal are just incredible in the sunlight.
You really cannot go wrong, D-Blue by a gnats ass.

Normally, I would prefer a simple black dial. But in this case, the JC is pretty unique. And I do like blue. So JC.

Either way, you're getting an awesome watch. Post pics when you get it.

I would go with JC. While the tech of the watch is impressive, its the dial that sealed the deal for me. :)

I would personally go with the JC, as the black dial in person is a bit boring, IMO. That's not to say it isn't a great watch, because it is, but it is up against a super unique dial. I do, however, not really like the green writing on the JC version, although I understand why it is in that color. Still, it is a really cool dial and would be my choice if I was deciding between the two.

I bought the 1st generation black dial one month before the blue dial came out.
First wanted to change but now happy with it.

The DSSD and especially the 1st gen is all about over the top engineering.
A “fancy” dial is less fitting for such a piece. So I gladly stick with mine.

Given the choice today I might go with the Deepblue, don’t know really, it’s nice.

Perhaps you have a liking for the movie director because you refer to him. In that case you want the black one since that was the watch he was wearing. The new dial only came after the dive.

Both good choices.

Black dial is truer to the SD history and works better with different straps. (I’m bias here)

The JC is more desirable but you gotta love Mountain Dew or the Sea Hawks.
