I just learned of this a couple of years ago when a friend of mine, an accomplished diver who researches whale migrations and photographs them, was invited to the Explorers Club and was told that he would have been given the Sub, but it was out on an expedition at the time. He said there was an empty glass box where the Sub would have been on display had it been there.

Very cool.

I’ve been to the club before and the case happened to be full when I was there. These are the exact watches taken on all those expeditions!

As a member of The Explorers Club (TEC) I applaud the article. It’s a wonderful program.

I know they occasionally give away watches as well; I remember someone on the UMGF winning a Rolex from TEC (in NYC iirc). I believe it was an Explorer.

Great read. It mentions at least one TRF member in it by name
