Icon4 Tudor Black Bay Fifty Eight Blue - Dial Flaw??? v2

Hi Watch Fam,

I have better photos of my Tudor dial flaw. I got a friend's macro lens to snap these. As you can see in the pictures there are clear purple specks on the dial. Would you send this in? Would you keep it? Huge Tudor oversight?
Bought July 1 at Tudor AD.

Thanks for your time.

I’d eventually have it swapped out when the lead times reduce at the RSC. Never seen a defect like this before.

That might be the move. It does not bother me, but it was kind of surprising when I saw the pictures. I am more concerned that Tudor missed it...

It will probably be worth a fortune in years to come. A bit like the rolex spider and tropical dials:)

I tend to agree. It's certainly disappointing, but will probably end up quite valuable in years to come.

Once the blue dial becomes a bit more ubiquitous, make friends with an independent who has a Rolex parts account or an AD with a certified Rolex tech on site, and try to get a replacement blue dial whilst maintaining possession of the original flawed dial.

I may be in the small minority here but I say put down the macro lens and just enjoy your watch

Today’s dial “flaw” is tomorrow’s rare purple patina dial. Whatever you do, hold onto that dial.

The only problem is that I dont think it looks that good? Tropics look cool and are premium, the premium on spider dials isnt as high despite them being more rare well because they look horrible. I agree with you though, there probably will not be many of these...

I would suggest take it to RSC regardless and have them assess and tell you what those purple specs dots are and what caused it....and pls share as we'd like to hear.

It should be an interesting story....if they tell you they are flakes of meteorite dust then just keep it...

Clearly not acceptable, once again, for a brand like Tudor. I start to believe that QC is nonexistent.

Collector neuroticism is as high as ever and will only increase. This will be a $10k watch in a few decades.

So the advice here is be happy you spent $ on a flawed watch, put it in a safe for 20 years, then hope you can sell it because its collectable? Sorry but isnt that what the stock market is for?

What if the OP just wants to wear a nice watch that he actually enjoys? If this is widespread like the gmt date issue it will be a serious problem for Tudor.

Well if history repeats itself and I am in the minority then that would be okay advise... But I agree with you on your second point. I am not floating in it and it was meant to be my daily wearer. Time will tell if it bothers me so much that I just need to send it in.

Per the value, does not really matter to me. However, I do think they will go up regardless.

The pictures don't look great but if it can't be seen with the naked eye I don't see the problem.

I wouldn't care if one day this watch gained value because of this pointless little defect. I'd return it. That would bother me.

Reminds me of the Deep Sea SeaDwellers that had the “spotting” issue on the dial.

Ditch the macro lens and stop over-thinking.

Well, you can see it with the naked eye, but it was hard to capture on camera... Not overthinking at all. Thanks for your time though, really insightful stuff.

Watch collecting kind of reminds of baseball error cards which can be quite valuable. If this becomes a common issue (like 10% or more) then there's no value, just get it replaced. If it is like 2-5% of the watches, then it will be valuable especially if it is a paint defect that causes it to change colors. If this only happens to .001% of watches then get it replaced because it will be so rare that it will not be known. The best outcome for a watch dial is that it has some weird paint properties that cause the dial to fade, crack, or spot over time and that dial paint was only used for one to two years before Rolex/Tudor figured out their issue.

Sorry to see and hear about this -- looks pretty pronounced in those photos. I haven't been able to see anything like that on my Blue Bay 58, so must have been a QC slip. Seems like it is bothersome for you (I don't blame you!) -- best wishes as you figure out the best path forward.

Send it back... it’ll do your head in.... Get what you paid for, a brand new watch, not one with QC issues.
