My New GMT TT - Bargins can be found!

In 2000 I bought my starter-Rolex...a modest, but handsome, NoDate Sub. I grew to really love the watch over time. It was understated and practical.

But my eyes started to wander and I was smitten by the new GMT in SS&Gold. Recently a manager in at my local AD encouraged me to trade my beloved NoDate. They promised a very good price, especially since I made the original purchase from their shop. I was intrigued because I don't want to keep a second timepiece on a watchwinder. I don't want more gadgets in my home. Also, they seemed really anxious to sell some watches!

Last week they "appraised" my Sub. I asked they check with Headquarters and email me the best price, including my trade, they could give on the GMT TT and the Sub TT. I was surprised when the saleswoman called 2 days later and said she was not allowed to put the prices in an email. When she told me the prices, I understood why.

In essence, I got fair market retail price for the Sub and an excellent discount on the new piece. Or...I got a really good price for the Sub and paid list for the watch. Either way, I was happy. They must have had a bad holiday season as the shop was truely a "motivated" seller.

It was too good to pass up. I picked up the GMT IIc in SS/Gold on Saturday. It actually took quite a while to close the deal as US sellers (trades) must now complete security paperwork and give a thumbprint!

I am still not comfortable with the watch yet. It stays hidden under my shirt sleave most of the time. I am just not used to having something that flashy on my arm. I am sure it will pass.

Congrats on the new watch!! I too am picking one up over the weekend and am slightly concerned about wearing such a flashy watch...I just had to buy it though as it looks so nice. Please post some pics.

I am always impressed with the supportive and thoughtful responses I get everytime I participate in this Forum. Thank you all for your replies.

I wanted to add a few additional thoughts on the GMT IIC if I may. First, the bezel is not always the matte black it appears in most photos. The bezel color often looks dark gun-metal grey with a metalic shine. You can see this especially under a loupe.

Second, the Easylink feature is pretty cool. I needed to have a link added ($175 USD) to get it to fit my wrist but the Easylink (+/-5 mm) adjustment makes fine turning the bracelet lenght easy.

Finally, I was surprised the box contains no "papers". The warranty cards are now sent from the factory with buyer info included, according to my AD. Supposedly, this was done to deter grey market buyers.
