Incoming and a BIG Thanks!!

A few weeks ago I finally got the call that my Tudor BB Harrods edition was ready for collection (had been on the waitlist for a little over a year). The original plan was to fly out from SF to collect the watch, have some good Indian food and enjoy a fun weekend in London. And since I’d be getting the VAT back it would have been a relatively inexpensive trip. Due to covid though, that was no longer an option. I tried to think if I knew anyone in London who could collect it for me but unfortunately the only person I know lives about 3hrs away in Birmingham. Now what do I do? I then remembered a recent post here where a member in London offered to help collect and ship the watch to those of us outside the UK. So, I decided to take a chance and I PM’d a complete stranger, Horationelson, and asked if he could help me out. Within minutes he replied and said he could. We then jumped on a call to introduce ourselves, work out logistics and even chatted about watches for a bit. Now I know what you’re thinking, how can you trust a complete stranger? Well, sometimes you just have to have faith that there are still a lot of good people in the world.

I want to say THANK YOU to Horationelson for helping me out!!  Not only did he collect the watch from Harrods, but he securely packed it up and worked with DHL to get it shipped out quickly. If it wasn’t for him going out of his way to help a stranger, I wouldn’t have been able to get the watch. Hopefully someday I can return the favor to you!

Now on to the watch itself. This is really is a cool looking piece! The matte olive green bezel combined with the matte gilt dial really look great together. It looks good in pictures but even better in person. At 41mm it doesn’t feel big on the wrist, especially since there are no crown guards to bulk up the case. Yes, it is a bit thicker than a BB58 or Sub but definitely not a deal breaker and I actually like the proportions of the watch. It definitely has some wrist presence. Also, I didn’t know how I’d feel about the faux rivets on the bracelet, but honestly, they’re so small I don’t even notice them when wearing it. This watch is going to get a lot of wrist time!!

Of course no incoming post is complete without some pics!

Congrats, and special kudos to Horationelson. The Harrod's looks very proportional on your wrist...don't let this one go!

Incredible

I remember the original post a few weeks back and I’m very glad someone stepped in to help.

To top it off that’s one of the best wrist shots I’ve seen of that Harrods black bay. Looks fantastic and suspect about as common in the USA as Tiffany dial watches are here in the uk. Ie pretty rare indeed!

Great story, glad it worked out and well done fellow member!!

Congrats! Still waiting for mine!

My contact at Harrods told me if the person she contacted first didn't reply by what was last Wednesday at the time then the watch would be mine. Turns out the first person replied, hence I'm still waiting...

All of these Tudor Harrods incomings make me think if one of us on the forum was the lucky person who beat me to it last week!

For what it’s worth, they did tell me that they have been getting through the list reasonably quickly as the stock is steadily rolling through and a not insignificant number are unable to collect their watches (some due to travel difficulties, others for all sorts of Covid reasons perhaps). So I get the impression they are rolling through the list at a good pace.

Well here's hoping! Although I just picked up a 2020 Sub so I can wait a little longer I suppose

Good on you for helping out the OP! I'm always down Harrods too so would be great to meet any fellow WIS's

Happy to have helped out here!

I (and virtually all of us on here) know what it’s like to wait for a watch. So I had real empathy with the possibility someone might miss out on a watch after a 12+ month wait, simply because they couldn’t get to the store. It was much trouble to me as I am often down at Harrods looking at watches and everything else they have to offer. I’m not a serial poster on here and have a modest (currently down to one watch) collection, but I’ve spent hours on end reading, learning and getting the odd advice/opinions when buying over the last few years, so it’s nice to be able to give something back.

Seeing the watch in the flesh for the first time when collecting it made me realise what a beauty it is, so I’ve also put my own name down for one.
