Rule of 3

I was watching a watchbox video earlier on YouTube, and the presenter mentioned he likes having 3 watches from a brand to try and encompass everything they have to offer.

He said for Rolex it’s a Daytona, GMT and Sub...

That got me thinking, I think if I had to pick 3, I would go BLRO, Daytona and DD40 yg. I think that encompasses the Rolex brand perfectly. What do you all think?

Thats certainly the best sports 3some. I’d probably do

Daytona
Gmt
Dd40 (like you)

But I require the rule of 5

Sub
SkyD

For me an attainable trio would be:

114200 olive green
16600
16570 polar

Like the “attainable” filter by Bas above! For me the three “attainable” pieces at this point are:

18239
16610
16622

A fourth one would be a GMT (probably a BLRO or a BLNR) with a fifth one being a chrono (perhaps a Daytona)

I agree with Daytona, GMT, and DD. That's definitely a perfect Rolex combo in my mind.

To me the top two that those not on TRF would know would be the DJ and Sub. As a third I guess I’d add the GMT

Sea-Dweller 43, GMT 2 Coke (hopefully comes out next year), and Ceramic Daytona Black Dial.

I've had three and now I'm up to four and headed towards five. For me the three would be Daytona, Milgauss, and Yacht-Master. Why these? A Chrono is essential, a three hander, too, and aside from the most obvious OPs, the Milgauss is special, and a watch with a rotating bezel is necessary (YM is better looking and fits better than a Sub or GMT for me, also I've no need for a complication I won't use as found in the GMTs).

Great topic!! It’s very hard to pick three Rolex models that encompass the entire brand... but your thread, your rules.

DD is above my $20K price cap... so, my picks are:

Submariner, Datejust, Daytona

This captures the most “breadth” across the brand for me.

+1

Sub SS (you could also argue GMT)
Daytona SS - white dial
DJ SS jubilee/fluted - pick your dial colour

This gives you the best range imo.

My rolex 3s are:

1. Sub
2. GMT
3. AK (upgraded OP)

I don't think the daytona is that great...it used a Zenith movement.

Zenith made/makes some of the best movements in history

Wow never heard that as a bad thing, maybe you should do a little homework on the El Primero

I agree with this. I feel like if you’re taking Rolex you need to include a Sub(or sea dweller)!

The most iconic Rolexes are the black no date Submariner, yellow gold Day Date, and the white dial Daytona. Most people wouldn't know what a GMT is or the other models

IMO it’s the most iconic and mistakable Rolex model.
