Really?

Is someone gonna pay almost 10k for a Öyster perpetual? A 5,900 dollar retail watch, lol!

It's less than what you can get a DJ41 these days, so what are the alternatives when ADs don't or won't sell you one? It's crazy, I agree.

I’m glad none of these newer ones Rolex has come out with for the last few years are appealing to me at all. I’m a five digit guy and proud of it.

What? Here's an unworn blue dial DJ41 for 1k less at DSW. OP41 is more expensive than the DJ41 at the moment. Perhaps because of the novelty. We'll see what happens in half a year.

Somebody email him and ask what he will pay for one. I guarantee it isn’t anywhere near what he is trying to sell them for. I mean I like the OP41 but no way would I pay anything near $9500. Heck I won’t pay over retail. I fear this could only get worse the closer we get to the holidays.

If I were in David's shoes, would I do the same? Yes.

Supply / Demand in a free market. It is what it is. Now would I personally pay that much? I wouldn't even pay 1k over list, so...

People, these days, will pay whatever it takes to get a Rolex on their wrist.

Thanks for the free publicity, OP.
60 seconds ago, I didn't know that DavidSW is selling the new Oyster Perpetual.
But now I do.
Good job!

you assume that the Price in $ USD is the same as the value in "Social Currency"

While I agree that the "Social Currency Market" is also a fickle bubble... you have to take a few steps back and look at the lens you are using to view the world...

Someone with a different lens is not asking why anyone would pay 10k for a 6K watch, he is asking why anyone would pay 6k for a watch...

We respond "you'll never understand" - the emotion, the passion, etc. etc. "Luxury transcends practical and logical thought"...

those who would pay the price because of the value in social currency to be one of the exclusive "haves" compared to the "have-nots" will respond to you the same way we respond to the NON-WIS out there, "You'll never understand.."

We are both right... but I think it's time for a brief moment where we appreciate that we have become a parody of ourselves...

it's a rainstorm, we're outside with no umbrella, and we're calling someone an idiot for jumping in a pool and telling him he's going to get wet...

Never actually thought of it that way but it's exactly what we have today and it's perfectly sensible. I should use your comment as a sig line.
