Dea Dweller vs Deepsea SD
Is there a difference between these two? I think one is 43 and DSSD is 44. And I know DSSD goes deeper.
Other than that, are they the same? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I be wielding a deepsea. Sometimes I want a SD43.
But there’s nothing like the deepsea. |

The Dea Dweller is one mm less in diameter, slightly larger dial, and three mm less in thickness than the Seepsea.

I have the SD43 and I have tried the DSSD.
Both are great watches but For me the SD43 fits better (and I have a large wrist).

Quite different. Both bad ass divers.
Deepsea is thicker, has domed saphire crystal, different glidelock clasp, ring lock system, polished HEV. |

The Deepsea is a winter watch. Wear it with a tee and people be like us that another watch face on the side of your watch?? But in winter a sweater or hoodie won’t eat your watch up.

Have both and each wears differently. The SD43 is a great all around diver but love the look of my JC.

Despite its larger dimensions and weight, many people (me included) find the DeepSea more comfortable because it has a flatter caseback. Between all the Sea Dwellers available today, I’d take the James Cameron DSSD at number one, two tone Sea Dweller at number two (I own these two) Black dial DSSD and the SD43 in fourth.

Yes. A very significant difference.
I would strongly recommend trying both on prior to making your decision. |

I'd love that....but it's near impossible to find an AD with one, let alone both. Headed to a Boutique today, hoping they have one of each onsite.

What's your wrist size. Need a big wrist to pull off a deepsea.

DSSD is an amazing reference (owned one for years). However I could never really get over the thickness. The SD43 on the other hand - the proportions are simply spot on IMO. I've said this a number of times, but its the Diver I'd have bought years ago if it were an option. It ticks all the boxes once could want in an everyday Dive watch. Good Luck with your hunt.

Same??? No, not even close except for being Rolex watches and having an automatic He valve. Very different in every metric especially the one relating to engineering.

Saw them both today. $14k for a new Sea Dweller with stickers. Not too bad. The owner had a Deep Sea...got to see it but not try it on. I didn’t realize how much different they were.
And was glad to get some shots comparing the SD to the Sub. Really like the SD. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Owned both, stuck with the DSSD - it stands on it's own as it's own extreme model. In the end I soured on the cyclops and yes - the case back of the red dweller doesn't help. I too believe, for me the DSSD wears better - 7 5/8 wrist.

Its a shame that Rolex made a Sd43 when it should be a sub43 aka SubXL
The SD lineage has never had a 43mm. The last of the great Sea Dwellers is the 116600. it used to be the 116600 40mm & 116660 DSSD 44mm SD43 just a bigger sub and will never be viewed seriously by Rolex purists, afficiandos as a legit version of the ICONIC seadweller. |

The DSSD is the one! The 43mm Sea Dweller is nice but a bit of a mystery to me as it’s overshadowed by the big boy.
Kinda like buying a Porsche turbo and not going for the “s”. If you’re gonna do it, do it!

I like them both, but have not owned either, so I am not really qualified to talk much about either. The DSSD JC dial has really grown on me, and I very recently let my AD know that I would like to purchase one if they can get it for me. I find the Sea-Dweller black dial to be just slightly boring, but as an everyday watch it is probably an awesome option; I've just got another black-dialed watch already, so I want something a bit more interesting. The Sea-Dweller also has a cyclops while the DSSD does not.
I also think body type has a lot to do with what size watch certain people can pull off. I have a 6.75" wrist, but either of these watches look pretty good on me because I am 5'9" with a muscular build. I don't think it is just all about wrist size. |

DSSD= 3.900M, 44MM, GLIDELOCK clasp is different (better), 18mm tick, Ring Lock System made of Byodur, titanium/ss back (a total different architecture from previous Rolex divers), curved crystal, no cyclops.
SD43: Perfect, 43mm, more simple glidelock, 15mm tick, cyclops, flat crystal, 1220m. I have both, love both, but the SD43 is my grail. Enviado desde mi SM-G975F mediante Tapatalk |

Deep Sea is a tour de force of diving watch technology and is beautiful. It's just too big for me. The Sea-Dweller is bold and large, but 3 mm or so thinner than the Deep Sea. That difference makes the Sea-Dweller 43 a great fit for me. I've had the stainless version for a couple of years and just picked up the 18K/SS variant just recently. Really fun watch to wear.
Try them on before you decide if you're unsure.
