Rolex production levels : Switzerland

4271 new cases the past 24 hours.
The 2nd wave of infection has not been handled as well,as the first wave .

If we look at 2020 ,anyone have an idea how production was affected ? I was told by an AD that it was down by 30% earlier in the year .1st wave lock down .

With tighter measures in place ,I think Rolex scarcity levels at ADs,may sadly increase in 2021.

I dont see demand dwindling ,so getting a Rolex from an AD will be harder and secondary market pricing will remain extremely high .

It’s not looking good Doctor.
I hope the vaccine roll out will alleviate the progression.

Totally plausible. This isn’t just watches, it’s with every major product in production around the world. Cars, boats, appliances, everything. The economy has been rocksolid the last four years. Things were difficult to get before this stupid virus hit. It’s only going to be made worse. Maybe they coming to decline in the economy will help but that’s a ways off. Perhaps it’s a good time to sell off my entire collection at a massive premium and then buy some previously impossible to afford property somewhere.

Never grey. Never. I would never pay $28,000 for $14,000 watch. It’s just not going to happen. I’m not sure I would even consider it if 30K to me was like $100 to a person in the middle class. It’s just the principle of it.

It’s hard to say. I was encouraged by some of the recent incomings here from members who bought watches without any prior AD purchase ...

Well all except that guy with his rainbow Daytona

IMHO much more important things to worry about at the moment than production of watches.

Perhaps, but most of those discussions get locked up very quickly and then we are reminded that this is a watch forum and discussion should revolve around that.

Agree - here in US, Switzerland was named as a currency manipulator for actions to inflate Swiss franc between 14-19% of FMV. This allegedly occurred in 2019 and has continued this year.

For us here, a headwind since potential increased tariffs on Swiss goods would likely hit watches. Nothing immediate - first step is to negotiate with Swiss authorities to end manipulation efforts. Then if those efforts fail, tariffs are usually next step.
