Passed on a grail

Got the call today for a "surprise Christmas present" from my AD. It's been a busy year as I bought two watches along with my wife's engagement / wedding band from the same AD, but curiosity got the best of me so I decided to go in and take a look.

The SA came out with a black ceramic Daytona. After much going back and forth in my head I decided it wasn't the right time to pull the trigger and told the SA I was going to pass until I was ready.

The SA seemed to appreciate it and told me when I was ready he would make it happen...again.

All I can say is damn, I feel dumb....

Should have bought it and offloaded one of the other purchases.

Not the rings of course

happened to me on Monday , AD offered me an Explorer but it just wasn't the time plus I have another watch on my list before. At the end he seemed to understand.

Good for you. So many people would just buy it and flip it for profit. That’s gotta bank some good karma.
With that said, sorry for your loss. That’s one heck of a watch.

That SA probably had no idea what to think when you declined.

You did the right thing in my book! Better to get it when you’re ready and your SA will come through.. I’m sure!

I hope your AD understands and still values you as a good client after this.

Are you serious? The AD is thrilled. Now they get to offer it to another happy client...double win.
I swear people around here forget who the customer is and who the business is. It’s not like the AD is now stuck with a watch they can’t unload.

You bet the AD can easily sell it to someone else. My point is will they give OP a second chance when the next black Daytona shows up or will they only focus on their VIP clients eager to add it to their collection? Will they still consider OP after turning it down? I mean why would they with the long list of VIPs waiting?

I know what you mean, and it doesn’t make sense. Why would the AD cross him off the “VIP” list? He still has good sales history and he let them sell the Daytona to someone else rather than buy and flip it.
The AD should be more concerned about keeping him as client, not the other way around. They should be eager to find his next watch for him.
This bizarro world of Rolex lately has confused the retailer/customer relationship.

Maybe they will remember he is not a flipper and 'perhaps' that will aid him later?

Who knows. It is mostly games anyway.

And that's for you (and everybody else) to judge his chopice or should we just trust what the OP is telling us, what he believes to be true? Does it even matter? Not to me.

I think he did the right thing. It's a watch.

I'll take it! Been waiting over 3 years from my AD here in California. If AD still has it and wants a buyer, I'm ready, willing and able to buy my grail. I am sure he already has a list of people that want it...

that's an opportunity you'll most likely never get again. probably should've taken it and offloaded another watch

Everyone going to act modest and pretend like this was a good move...LOL
I will be honest here and not lie. I would have bought it and sold it the next day if its not a watch i really want. Its just too good of an easy flip to walk away from.
Or at very least buy and sell to a member who stands no chance at AD.

OP, your honesty will pay off in the long run. Stay that way.

Recently when I 'got the call' and dropped by to pick up my black Sub, AD offered me a choice between LV and LN. I picked the LN because I already had a hulk. I could, theoretically, buy the LV and flip it for some profit and buy LN in grey market. But that wasn't me.
